Ever wanted to learn about the Sitar? I can show the foundation of Hindustani Classical music along with techniques on how to play the sitar. I have studied sitar myself for about 8 years, and travels to India to have my sitar hand made for me.

I had my first lesson with Omar and he was great! It's my first time to play any string instrument, but since I do have some experience with music, he tailored the lesson time to me. He was also enthusiastic about the music/songs I wanted to learn and I left my first lesson feeling excited to continue practicing.

I am trained in piano, but never had any guitar or ukulele experience prior to meeting Omar. Omar figured out my aspirations and skill level in no time and got me strumming songs in less than 4 weeks. Now I lull my kids to sleep with my ukulele and they sing along.

Sitar:
A plucked stringed instrument used mainly in Hindustani music and Indian classical music. The instrument is believed to have been derived from the Vena, an ancient Indian instrument. Besides learning how the instrument is held and plucked the student will learn how to tune, play and read notes, rhythms, songs and the basics of music.

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

I studied Sitar with Allyn Miner who is in the lineage of Allauddin Khan, Ali Akbar Khan and Ravi Shankar. Raga theory is also essential to how I teach other genres of music such as the Blues. I can teach you about buying a Sitar and using it to play both Hindustani Classical and adaptiations of other styles of music.
