Kevin is a great teacher. I am a total beginner and already feel more comfortable with notes than I ever thought possible and I’m having fun learning the drums. I would not hesitate to recommend him. Thanks Kevin!

Students should expect to be challenged. First we start by identifying and labeling all the notes and their names. After learning the notes and how to strike the instrument will move on to learning scales and building chords from those scales. Once we can play some scales and chords we will begin learning your favorite music.

My son loves his drum lessons. Being eight, he naturally has an excess amount of energy and a tendency to chat but Joe has a way of engaging him and keeps him learning. Very positive and supportive as well.

My experience as a performer and teacher spans over 25 years of every musical style. I believe in creating an environment that is focused on playing music well and where the student can have fun while gaining confidence. It is important to develop functional musicians with good technique, reading, time, and listening skills. We will cover all styles of music that use steel drums, including jazz, classical, and island music.

Mariano was an amazing percussion and drum set teacher. His lessons were engaging and productive, and he was always able to communicate an idea or musical concept in a way that I was able to understand and connect with. After about 2 years of lessons I was accepted into the Orange County School of the Arts for percussion and I owe my success to the lessons I took with Mariano. I continued lessening throughout high school and my skill level contined to grow. What I loved about Mariano's teaching was his unique ability to take very simple exercises and make them more difficult and therefore much more beneficial. Along with stressing the importance of basic technique, he would constantly inteoduce me to new things - Afro beats, traditional grip, Latin beats, new ways to sight read, and 4 mallet marimba technique. I would highly suggest taking lessons with Mariano if you are looking for a fun, encouraging teacher who has lots of experience with a variety of percussion performance!

She is a wonderful instructor. She has a very calm and soothing presence even miles away. I am a beginner and I find her to be very patient. She clearly is talented both in terms of playing the instrument as well as in the art of instruction. I highly recommend her!

10+ years of teaching. Lead / Tenor Steel Drums. I teach all genres, especially Jazz, American folk / world music (Brazil, Trinidad, Cameroon), and Classical percussion. I'm primarily a jazz drummer and I bring all my performance, business, and practice experience to my students to help them achieve their musical goals. We focus on strengthening the fundamentals, (time, sound, AND the feeling of your groove). I'm honest and frank in lessons. I hope my genuine passion for teaching inspires that openness in my studio. My students have been selected for Jazz at Lincoln Center Middle and High School Jazz Academy, Manhattan School of Music pre-college and summer camp, and Columbia University’s jazz ensembles.

Having been a student of Ben's for three years, I am proud to say that he is the best drum instructor I've ever had. Ben's approach is tailored directly to the student's needs, whether they be introductory or advanced. He is always supportive and encouraging of you to perform to your fullest potential and actively practice what you learn between lessons, for which he provides useful activities. Ben is also generous with his time each lesson, frequently spending a little extra time to ensure your understanding of the material. He is always prepared to start teaching at the appointed time, and he is easy to contact to set up lessons and flexible with his availability.

Outside of lessons, Ben has often invited me to see him play in clubs around New York City and sometimes perform myself if there's room. This has given me the opportunity to engage with the jazz community and see what I've been taught being applied in professional settings. Taking lessons from and spending time with Ben has been a fulfilling experience, and I would strongly recommend him to drumming students of all ages and backgrounds.

I have worked with Ben for many years. Ben is one of the most insightful and enthusiastic teachers I have ever encountered. He always knows how to focus his students’ attention on what they need to work on in a supportive and helpful way, giving them manageable assignments that isolate and strengthen the weak points of their playing. Ben is personally invested in his students’ improvement and love of music, and is wonderful at encouraging his students such that they really want to practice and get better. I’ve enjoyed every part of our lessons and highly recommend Ben as a teacher for a drummer or musician of any skill level. I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting a number of Ben’s other students and I know they feel the same way!
