I strive to treat each student equally no matter how advance the student are. My job as a teacher is to provide students a tool in life. Students will learn the way life works through the art of music. Should the students decide to pursue music or not in the future, I only hope that students will apply what they've learned in music to their everyday problem solving.

About Johnny

Johnny received his Bachelors of Music at the University of Alabama, under the tutelage of Carlton McCreery, and a Masters of Music at The Boston Conservatory with Andrew Mark. Johnny made his debut performance in 2011, performing Dvorak's Cello Concerto with Albuquerque Youth Symphony under the dir

Johnny is experienced in teaching cello. His lessons are always passionate, musical, and informative. There are several aspects of his lessons that I'd like to share.

1. Full of Content: He delivers enough details of a new technique with simplification for an easy understanding.
2. Learning Curve: By breaking down and reorganizing the knowledge, he teaches new concepts step by step, from approachable actions to efficient actions.
3. Customization: He helps you find out a suitable solution to grow on the techniques based on your own physical and cognitive characteristics.
4. Experimentation: The correct ways he suggests you do is demonstrated by experimenting with different ways for comparison, which you would not only know what to do but know the reason behind it.

Cello is a beautiful yet complicated instrument. To enjoy it, a great mentorship is necessary and truly valued.

Cello:
A bowed or plucked string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. The strings from low to high are generally tuned to C2, G2, D3 and A3, an octave lower than the viola. It is a member of the violin family of musical instruments, which also includes the violin and viola and the double bass. The cello is used as a solo musical instrument, as well as in chamber music ensembles (e.g., string quartet), string orchestras, as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras, and some types of rock bands. It is the second-largest and second lowest (in pitch) bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra, the double bass being the largest and having the lowest (deepest) pitch. My lessons always start out with the basics! We start out by learning notes by plucking the strings and then the bow is soon incorporated. The goal is to eventually learn all the notes on the fretboard and also learning how to read and play chords. As the student progresses ...

About Karen

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

As a teacher, I enjoy cultivating joy and curiosity through cello and believe in creating a warm, open environment for students to develop into inquisitive lifelong learners! While I work with students individually to come up with their own goals, some of the core objectives I have for my students is to develop solid technique and tone quality as well as expression and satisfaction through creating music. I use a variety of tools for learning from standard technique books and classical repertoire to fiddle tunes and rote learning. I believe every child and adult is musical and am excited to explore the cello with you!

About Grace

I've worked in various settings with students of all ages, from beginning elementary school cellists to high school students preparing for college auditions to adults seeking to learn a new instrument. Grace has made my cello learning dreams come true! As an adult without a lot of music background, I was nervous about starting cello lessons, especially the note reading. Grace has made learning cello seem very achievable and also very fun! She helped me rent a cello and comes over weekly for lessons. She is always prepared with new material in case we get through the planned material quickly and assigns great homework! Her fine tuning suggestions on arm and body placement as well as finger and arm weight have been so helpful. I highly recommend!

My cello lessons are very unique because I don't focus on classical music at all. I teach the cello, the understanding of music and allow the students to play whatever their heart desires. Every student has different desires so I want to give them the opportunity to express themselves on the cello however they want.

About Guy

Guy is a well-known professional cellist. He began his music career at the age of 5 in his native country, Haiti. Guy trained and established a foundation in classical music during his early years and continued his study in secondary and post-secondary education, ultimately achieving a Bachelor’s

As a passionate cello player, I want my students to have fun but also really understand their instrument and the music they are playing! Students will learn their scales through the circle of fifths, shifting positions, vibrato techniques, music theory, and performing with an accompanist. They are expected to have fun but to work hard - it’s totally worth it!

About Melissa

"I was a pianist and oboist in my early life, and now in my 40s decided that I'd love to learn to play the cello. Victor is a really wonderful teacher. He's very patient, very calm, and very responsive. Whenever I would message him, he'd respond within a few hours, and often he'd respond right away. He was very flexible when schedules changed. Whenever I would run into problems or issues with a new technique, he would find resources, such as videos, to help describe it more fully. I've had many music teachers over the years and Victor is absolutely one of the best."

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …

What is a Yamaha Cello? A Detailed Look for Cello Students

Who made your cello? Who carved the body, stained, varnished, and assembled the instrument, including the label visible through the f-hole which bears their signature? Many musicians consider the maker of their instrument, or luthier, a point of pride. There are famous luthiers, like Stradivari and Guarneri, whose names are synonymous with masterpieces of craftsmanship. These masters innovated many of the standards for modern stringed instruments, and so many luthiers might include on the la …
