Stephen's a great instructor both from a technical and personable perspective.

He's got a cornucopia of musical knowledge that's evident from how speaks to how he teaches. If you like any film score, chances are he knows how to play it.

Speaking as a beginner, I can say he's been very patient and knows a bunch of exercises and books to learn everything thing from theory to practical pieces to finger exercises.

He provides constructive guidance on what you're doing wrong, and I'm happy to see myself improve under his tutorage. (oh and if you're a sci-fi fan, you'll have a lot in common with him)

Steve is an excellent teacher! I always look forward to my classes. I am a student in high school, and he fully understands my need to balance my school work with piano, and he makes sure that I am able to comfortably commit to both aspects of my life. Steve makes sure that I stay on task and that I am progressing with my piano skills all while making the lessons fun and enjoyable.

I’m a student studying for an AA in Graphic Communications, Business Management, Art emphasis in Glass, Metalsmithing, and Jewelry Making. I am looking to transfer for a BA in Art and Technology in a couple of years. I have over ten years of photography, Photoshop, photo editing, Lightroom, PowerPoint experience. In addition, I have experience with designing logos, banners, flyers, putting together presentations, social media management, and visual designing. I am currently learning to use Illustrator, InDesign, WordPress, Premiere Pro, and Dimension. I was an intern for a start-up music company for six years. I ran their social media accounts. Helped new artists by creating accounts for them on multiple audio uploading websites. I helped design logos, banners, and flyers for upcoming events. Helped at events by taking payments, making sure all artists were present and ready to go on stage, assisting wherever needed. I also did photoshoots for the artists and owners and edited photos.

I am a certified teacher with a master's degree in Radio, TV, Film and one in education as well. I was an adjunct professor of photography at Manhattan's New School for Social Research for 10 years and have spent another 10 years teaching other adults as well as adolescents photography. I have conducted private lessons as well as workshops in my own studio.
My teaching is unique because, unlike many photography clubs where members voice their various opinions on photographs, my technique involves an objective approach where lessons are given each time that can be analyzed to see if requirements of the assignment were met. This way, the student learns not just through critiques, but by comparing his or her results to successful examples. I also do quite a bit of field work and teaching by example. It's the most effective way to learn. I get students putting their digital cameras on "MANUAL" right away and they master the concepts of correct exposure right off the bat.

About William

I have been doing commercial photography for over 40 years. I owned and operated a large studio on West 22nd Street in NYC for 20 of those years and I taught photography from 1988 to the present. I have never stopped. I like one-on-one sessions, but I have also conducted many workshops and classes i

I got my first camera when I was 8 years old and have been a passionate shutterbug ever since. I can teach you how to use all of the manual features on your camera to get the effects you want to achieve, and I can help you to train your eye to see and capture memorable compositions.

I encourage each student to find his or her personal style to express a unique vision. You don't need any experience to become an artist, just the desire to start noticing new things all around you and capturing moments to share with others!

For in-person lessons, we will meet in an outdoor setting to learn photography in natural light and existing light conditions. Online classes can be held in any location you have access to over Zoom, FaceTime, or Skype.

I've been a successful commercial photographer, author, educator and film producer since 1980. I understand that students learn in different ways and I strive to accommodate these differences.

I've owned and operated large commercial studios in Burbank, CA, where I did business with entertainment industry leaders: Warner Bros, Universal, Paramount and Disney. Disney especially punched my dance card for over 20 years. We love the mouse at our house. Currently I work exclusively as a location photographer and film producer.

Throughout I’ve taught at various private and public educational institutions, wrote my first book in 2009 and am currently writing my second. I’ve mentored many young photographers over the years and am thrilled for their successes.

Thanks for reading.

What is the Best Lighting for Photography?

The best photography lighting is based on several factors, and depends on what type of look you want when it comes to your photos.
