I can teach students theory, harmony, ear training, improvisation, how to play their favorite songs, how to create their own music, and how to read both tablature and sheet music.

About Chase

I started playing guitar when I was in the 8th grade. At that time I was into punk, and as I got older I moved into listening to classic rock, then blues, then all sorts of jazz and jam bands, and now classical and sacred art. And my playing of the guitar has following the same trajectory: I playe

Chase and I worked together doing online lessons for guitar for a number of months. Chase is an incredible instructor. He helped me understand how to analyze and replicate my music tastes in a super effective way. His teachings on improvisation definitely brought out the best in my playing. I would highly recommend learning from Chase, whether you are a beginner or expert.

Chase and I did not work together long because of other commitments. However, in the short time we did work together I learned a lot. Chase is easy going, highly skilled, very patient, and his teaching style is such that it fosters student confidence. I was really nervous at first, because I wasn't sure what to expect. Chase quickly made me feel at ease during the lesson. We only had half hour lessons, but that was definitely enough time to learn new materiel and make progress. I highly recommend him for guitar lessons.

My son is 7 and really seems to like Chase. He came well prepared and finally someone has started to teach him some rock songs .

After earning my BA in Economics at Harvard, I followed my true passion and began playing music professionally. I'm a Berklee Music College Alumnus, and I did learn a lot there. My guitar heroes: Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jerry Garcia, Eric Clapton, Jimi Paige, John Lee Hooker, Duane Allman and Dickey Betts. I love all the inspired by the greats, but as well as listening to my favorite guitarists, I also listen to just about everything under the sun, and appreciate all types of music.

I picked up a guitar when I was eight and became a blues/rock/funk guitarist over the years. After earning my BA in Economics at Harvard, I followed my true passion and began playing music professionally. I then returned to school at Berklee Music College, and later earned a Guitar Specialist Certi

Guitar:
Guitar is one of my favorite instrument to learn and I began playing at age seven. To become a well rounded musician and player I always start with basics. Hand and finger technique, notes, rhythms, chords, learning the fretboard, soloing and songs. If the student is only interested in learning songs I am happy to have them bring in anything they want to learn. For students who want more advanced technique I will teach them theory and how it relates.

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

Mr. Tarantola has taught my three kids to play piano and to read music. Their confidence in their music abilities has grown over the years as they continue to learn. The skills they learned with Mr. Tarantola has helped them in school music, band and in learning new instruments such as drum set and clarinet. Mr. Tarantola has the ability and personality to teach all ages including new beginners such as I - who began lessons in my 40's. Highly recommend!

"Taking lessons with Ahmad has certainly been one of my best decisions!

I've always wanted to play the guitar, but I couldn't afford to start until I was 30. I tried learning on my own unsuccessfully using the internet. I had almost given up when I contacted Ahmad on a whim, as a last ditch attempt. I have been taking lessons for a year and a few months now.

Ahmad's superpower is providing me with the right material at the right time. He is the rare combination of someone who is a great teacher in addition to being a great player (other reviewers have gone over his excellent credentials). He has spent decades focused on developing exercises and tips to teach people of all skill levels, and has handouts prepared for every scenario. Each class, he provides me with handouts carefully designed to be challenging enough to sustain my interest, without becoming overwhelmingly difficult. Each lesson builds on the lessons before it, so that I can make good progress while making the most efficient use of my practice time.

Since the first lesson, Ahmad has emphasized strong fundamentals and playing in time, and this makes practice engaging and fun! We began with how to play simple sequences of notes, and moved on to power chords, open and barre chords, simple rhythms and rhythmic notation, and pentatonic scales. After a few months there, we moved on to the major scale, more complex chords, and pop, rock and funk rhythms. Along the way, I also learned techniques like hammer-on, pull-off and bends, and example riffs from songs. Ahmad is also familiar with the rhythmic tradition and scales from many styles and cultures, so at times we were able to apply several rhythmic and melodic concepts in both a Western context and an Indian (Carnatic/Hindustani) context, and have a lot of fun exploring bridges between cultures. Throughout, Ahmad has remained very positive and encouraging.

A little more than a year ago I thought it impossible that I could progress this much, starting from scratch as an adult, given my usual commitments. But thanks to Ahmad, I have progressed far beyond my expectations. While I still have a very long way to go, I have now found a friend for life in the instrument, and I look forward to continuing my journey."

"I have been working with Ahmad for over a year now. I spent some time trying to learn guitar myself, from books and from online teachers, but was never able to make any real progress until I met Ahmad. Immediately he was able to move me in the right direction through 1 on 1 tutoring and by providing me with the right materials to build my confidence and skills. As a person with a family and somewhat demanding job it's always tough to find the time to work on guitar practice, but Ahmad works with me and paces everything well to build my skills while keeping it fun and challenging. It's always a delight to join Ahmad for lessons - his studio is convenient (with easy free street parking) and comfortable with nice natural light.
I can't recommend Ahmad highly enough - He's an absolute pleasure to work with. He's friendly, considerate, and an amazing guitar teacher. Since starting guitar lessons with Ahmad my playing has risen to a new level and my enjoyment of guitar in general his increased exponentially. I find myself always looking forward to my lessons!"

"I just finished my third lesson with Andrew and I am enjoying my lessons very much. In my first lesson I did not even know how to hold a guitar and he was very patient with me and teaches at a pace I was comfortable with. He is keeping me motivated to learn by introducing new skills and lessons and critiques me in a way that I want to improve. He always sends me home with assignments that I can use to practice and we typically spend the beginning of the next class going over it. He will make sure to correct any bad-habits that I may be developing and shows me ways in which I can improve. I feel this helps build a solid foundation that I hope to build upon in the years to come. I highly recommend learning guitar from Andrew."
