Cello:
A bowed or plucked string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. The strings from low to high are generally tuned to C2, G2, D3 and A3, an octave lower than the viola. It is a member of the violin family of musical instruments, which also includes the violin and viola and the double bass. The cello is used as a solo musical instrument, as well as in chamber music ensembles (e.g., string quartet), string orchestras, as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras, and some types of rock bands. It is the second-largest and second lowest (in pitch) bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra, the double bass being the largest and having the lowest (deepest) pitch. My lessons always start out with the basics! We start out by learning notes by plucking the strings and then the bow is soon incorporated. The goal is to eventually learn all the notes on the fretboard and also learning how to read and play chords. As the student progresses ...

About Karen

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

Getting a solid foundation in technique is imperative for anyone wanting to learn the cello, no matter if the desire is to play for fun or to eventually join an orchestra. That is why I make it my goal as a teacher to establish the correct ways to have: good tone, proper posture, flexible bow hold, loose vibrato, and pain-free playing. All of my students that have graduated to university-level teachers have reported back that the teacher was happy with their foundation and they were not required to "move back" steps in order to gain additional technique.
I generally use the Suzuki and ABC books to get students started(which employ mainly classical pieces and folk songs), but I am always open to other genres that the student is interested in. If there is a specific piece a student would like to play, we'll go over what technique is required to get there and use alternate pieces and exercises to finally reach that goal.

About Jessica

I have 25 years of playing experience along with a Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance. I was the section leader of my university's orchestra as well as a full-scholarship member of the university quartet. As a professional gigging musician, I have played with Il Divo, Mario Winans, La Jolla Sy

Mr. Jesse is a very effective teacher and my 16 year old daughter has progressed very quickly in playing classical guitar and violin in just under two years. The lessons are very productive while still being very enjoyable. I'd recommend him for both for students who are learning a new instrument or already have a musical background.

I love teaching beginner cello in all styles. I am a double bass player, so cello is the younger cousin of my main instrument. Brighter, richer, and so much easier to carry around!

About Quentin

I go to the University of Georgia for Double Bass Performance. I've spent about 11 years learning and sharing everything I can about this wonderfully complex instrument. So many genres of music can be played on the double bass, and once you add my secondary instrument, the bass guitar, you're a nece

I was nervous to start and Quentin quickly put me at ease as a student. I am an adult learner who can read music and has basic understanding of piano and wanted to move to the next level. He asked the right questions and shaped lessons and practice time which have proven extremely helpful. I look forward to more lessons and can easily recommend his lessons.

After receiving my Undergraduate Degree in Cello Performance and having played for over 13 years, I feel prepared to teach students of any skill level. My classically-oriented upbringing has exposed me to a wide variety of settings and repertoire (solo, chamber, orchestral) as well as years of audition and performance preparation. I have also spent the past few years exploring and refining extended techniques (chops, slaps, etc.) in and outside of a wide variety of non-classical genres, ranging from improvisation-based styles such as jazz and bluegrass to rock and pop.

Regardless of style, my lessons typically focus on reinforcing a strong technical foundation and productive practice routine including, but not limited to, scales and arpeggios, rhythmic training, ear-training and theory, and reading (+sight reading training and chord charts). For method books I use Suzuki, Essential Elements 2000, and a variety of technique/etude books depending on skill level (i.e. Popper, Schroeder,

I have always wanted to play the cello but never had any musical experience. I was hesitant doing online lessons at first but that worry quickly ran away when I had my first online lesson with Jordi. Jordi was so welcoming and it made me excited for the next lesson to come! He is extremely patient and encouraging whenever I would mess up or get a bit nervous playing which helps my anxiety. I always learn something new from him every time we meet and he creates a clear plan on what to work on for my next lesson. He is an understanding teacher and tailors to your experience level and the kind of music genre you like to play. He is also very flexible with his schedule. I'm a senior in high school so I have many things on my plate but he's willing to make time fit mine and his schedule. I'm very thankful to have him as my cello teacher. If you're researching and contemplating which teacher you should choose, picking Jordi is the smartest choice! :)

My daughter loves her cello lessons and has made amazing progress. Jordi is both professional and relaxed which is a great combination.
Leslie
Jordi was a Godsend when the pandemic hit. I had a life long desire to make music as well as listen and learn how to relax. He has far surpassed any of my expectations of an instructor. He is phenomenal. He teaches, he listens to my questions; He even anticipates my questions. His smile immediately says “I understand where I can help.” I am always eager to meet with him every week.

I learned a lot with her and enjoy playing with her duets on the violin. Because of her I got into Gold Cost Youth Orchestra where I met one of her violin students Sharri. She encouraged me to stay focused on my playing and to perform chamber music with her. Very well organized teacher, I will recommend her for any age."

"We just had our first cello lesson with Jessica and it was wonderful! She was very patient with me getting the tech set up for the first time online, and then was very attentive to my daughter. She helped in so many detailed ways, and details make all the difference. Hand grip, finger placement, bow hold, many things, all to make a better sound. Even after 45 minutes of a lesson, my daughter had fun and wanted to continue playing after she got offline. Yay! Success! Thanks Jessica!"
