Private Singing Teacher

I work with people in regard to singing lessons since 2004 in both academic settings and private face-to-face instructions. The lesson's plans and general direction that it takes during the course of study substantially depends on the student's interests and preferences. Along with main subjects that motivates students most in taking voice lessons ( such as learning new songs from the contemporary popular repertoire, for instance), I will offer my prospective students basic training in general musicianship; this would enable people to sing, read written music, and understand the very basics of music theory. With such advantages at their hands, my students will be able to expand their singing repertoire and to move, probably, to another styles of music for singing and enjoying it for the sake of people's personal aesthetical development.

I teach singers of all genres (country, classical, pop, bluegrass, rock…) to sing with confidence and freedom!

I have a M.M in vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and have extensive operatic training. I teach a technique that allows the singer to sing with freedom, and access their entire range evenly. I also work with students to develop style, interpretation, languages, and acting ability.

Singing:
I teach a World Famous Voice Method passed down to me by mentor the late, great Dante Pavone. Dante was born in Italy in 1910 to a famous Opera singing mother. He toured the whole world with her and they even sang with Caruso, the most famous Opera singer that ever lived. He was the first and a pioneer of popular singing. He taught everyone who was anybody including Aretha Franklin. One day there was a knock on his door and there were the Beatles! Dante would cure all wrecked voices and he cured mine, too. If you really want to learn the most solid breathing technique you will ever learn in your life you have come to the right place. I was told by one of Dante's students that singers from NY City Opera used to sneak up to Boston to study with Dante, because their teachers were ruining their voices and Dante would have to cure them. I am a rock singer, but this method works for any style or level. I can teach anyone to sing even the most tone deaf. Anyone can learn

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

Whether your goal is to sing a particular song, increase your vocal flexibility, gain confidence as a performer, or even to learn to carry a tune in a bucket, I can provide you with proven tactics to become the musician you want to be.

Lessons with me are informed by my own experience as an operatic countertenor and musical theatre performer, my education at The New England Conservatory of Music (MM Performance, concentration in Pedagogy), my knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of singing, my studies in motor learning theory, five years of hands-on experience at various community music schools, and my continued commitment to professional development. "Indigo is a fantastic teacher! I've taken lessons with Indigo both online (recently) and in-person (when I used to live in NYC). Indigo's teaching style really resonated with me - she provides incredible support and encouragement for beginners and her instruction has always helped me understand the weird nuances of singing and how to unlock my voice. She has also helped me with more advanced music theory/guitar during lesson to compliment the singing and help with songwriting. She also makes the online format work really well (which I can't imagine is easy) and I've always felt like the online lessons were as valuable/productive as the in-person lessons I took before I moved."

50+ Best Acapella Songs for Girls, Guys, Groups & More | TakeLessons

Every singer should have a few traditional and contemporary acapella songs under their belt. Many times, singers are required to sing acapella at auditions - without an accompanist or background track. Music directors often ask singers to sing acapella in order to hear and test their musicality and stamina. (Acapella singing requires that these skills be sharp!) It also shows that you’re able to be a leader, and that you're comfortable having the spotlight on you as a solo singer. If …
