Kristin is a wonderful teacher implementing the practical and the theory at the pace of the student. She made this 29-year old going through a mid-life crisis wanting to learn their first instrument very relaxed from the start. Kristin also bends the curriculum to your genre's to make it more enthusiastic.

Excellent Teacher and Guitarist!

Tony has been a great instructor; he is a very knowledgeable and skilled guitarist with so much passion that is very infectious! He really gives me the motivation to try harder until I get it! He is very patient and tries to understand how I learn and what I want to learn and customizes the lesson to my learning ability. It's not easy teaching me, but some how he figures it out! Tony thanks for all your time, effort and genuine care in teaching me the guitar and being the jump start for a lifetime of guitar playing!

I focus heavily on technique at first, usually for the first 2-4 months. At that point, depending on the student we work on either sight reading or improvisation.

About James

I'm currently a professor at EMMAT, a member school of the Berklee International Network. I have over a quarter-century experience teaching people of all backgrounds and styles. My education is a mix of formal and informal, and in addition, I have worked as a professional musician and singer my whol

If you’re serious about learning to play piano and willing to put in the work, I honestly cannot think of a better instructor than James. His teaching methodology is creative, fun, yet challenging catapulting students to higher proficiency levels than typically possible with more traditional teaching methods. My 11 year old learning from James is quickly surpassing other kids with many more years of lessons studying other dated, traditional approaches.

James has played for some well known professional acts during his career in multiple music genres (including a presidencial election ceremony)...point being he’s been on the big stage and has reached a level most only dream about. Yet he continues to follow his true passion which is helping others learn and reach their own individual musical aspirations.

In short, James is your guy...look no further.

James has a terrific approach to teaching that my seven year old daughter responded to with enthusiasm and excitement. She learned a lot more than I thought she could in just her first lesson. We’re looking forward to next week!

I have been teaching piano to students of all ages and backgrounds for over 10 years. I am comfortable teaching in both classical/traditional and rock/pop/jazz styles, and most often help guide students in one direction or the other based on their skills and goals. Most students choose a learning path on the piano based on how much time they'd like to devote to practicing and if they'd like to learn to read traditional music notation. As a musician and teacher, I don't believe there is one 'correct' style of music learning. Not all talented musicians are conservatory trained and can sight read Bach - although it IS really fun to play Bach. For many students, the goal is simply to enjoy playing the instrument, to learn songs that they love and to have some ability to just sit down and play/improvise!

Within the first few lessons, you can expect to know basic chords and scales and simple reading fundamentals, and within a few months you should expect to have a few songs under ...

About Chresten

I have been a performing musician for almost 20 years and teaching for over 10 years. I consider myself a multi-instrumentalist, my first instruments were the drumset and piano and I began studying guitar in my teens. My love of music has led me to study a wide range of subjects, but my primar

I am a wonderful choice for you or your child's piano education because I am a classically trained pianist and performer in addition to spending the last 20 years composing and performing alternative/rock music. My abilities in both musical worlds gives me an advantage over other teachers because I incorporate proper fingering and technique with all students. One of the single most important aspects of learning piano is learning proper technique, as this will help tremendously as the student advances to learn more difficult music.

I teach a wide variety of students at varying ages and levels. My lessons are geared towards each student as an individual and I take into account their musical preferences, when creating their repertoire list.

After your initial assessment, where we discuss your goals and expectations of lessons, I will map out a plan of action for how I will help you to achieve those goals. My plan may include any or all of the following: technical exercises, ...

"My 5 years old son takes lessons from Karen. I have no idea how anyone can be so patient with a child who clearly somedays does not want to learn but she has this ability to kind of go along with whatever nuisance my child has started and then steers him towards the lesson. She breaks up the time into so many small pieces doing/learning different activities that a child will not get bored with what they are learning that day.
I also should mention that she comes up with different ways to undo bad habits that have been picked up and also find and suggests new ways to learn and remember the right way.
I wish we had found Karen earlier."

Piano Technique Books & How to Use Them

“The most perfect technique is that which is not noticed at all.” ~ Pablo Casals ~  Technique is a paradox. On one hand, if you do not have the technique to play a difficult passage, you cannot master the passage. On the other hand, if you focus on the musical elements and what you are trying to express, the technique to achieve the musicality will come naturally. Those are the two opposing and contradictory thoughts about technique among musicians. Is technique something to be …

In the Pits: How to Succeed as an Orchestral Pianist

Being a piano player may seem like a very solitary way to go about learning an instrument. As a piano student, you may yearn to make music with others, and if you're naturally drawn toward group music making, it may be that you already study an orchestral instrument, or sing with a choir. You may also have extended your piano training to accompany some of your friends for concerts or exams, or explored the wide variety of chamber music repertoire available involving the piano. However, had you c …
