Cello Lessons in Harvard Square. Amazing Teachers.

I strive to treat each student equally no matter how advance the student are. My job as a teacher is to provide students a tool in life. Students will learn the way life works through the art of music. Should the students decide to pursue music or not in the future, I only hope that students will apply what they've learned in music to their everyday problem solving.

Cello:
A bowed or plucked string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. The strings from low to high are generally tuned to C2, G2, D3 and A3, an octave lower than the viola. It is a member of the violin family of musical instruments, which also includes the violin and viola and the double bass. The cello is used as a solo musical instrument, as well as in chamber music ensembles (e.g., string quartet), string orchestras, as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras, and some types of rock bands. It is the second-largest and second lowest (in pitch) bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra, the double bass being the largest and having the lowest (deepest) pitch. As a teacher, I enjoy cultivating joy and curiosity through cello and believe in creating a warm, open environment for students to develop into inquisitive lifelong learners! While I work with students individually to come up with their own goals, some of the core objectives I have for my students is to develop solid technique and tone quality as well as expression and satisfaction through creating music. I use a variety of tools for learning from standard technique books and classical repertoire to fiddle tunes and rote learning. I believe every child and adult is musical and am excited to explore the cello with you!

I am an experienced performer and teacher with 20 years experience on my instrument. I specialize in non-traditional forms of improvised music and classical music, but teach all genres. My lessons are individually catered to students of all ages and learning abilities to keep their interest heightened and meet their needs. I assist students in building a strong musical foundation through proper technique, note-reading, and music theory along with ear training, listening and memorization.

I teach beginner cello primarily using the Suzuki books, but supplement with other materials when needed. My students work on scales and rhythm constantly to improve their tone and musicality as well as technique. I teach classical, religious, fiddle, and more. I also teach group ensembles, trios, quartets, and I work with students on their school orchestral and audition pieces.

I have been teaching over 25 years. I have been playing for over 35 years. I have played professionally in orchestras and chamber ensembles.

I use both the Suzuki and traditional methods for teaching.
