As a upright bass teacher I strive to give my students the musical education they need to achieve their musical goals. Some of my past students have gone on to music school and professional careers, and I try my best to share the knowledge I've gained as a gigging musician over the years.

Hi! My name is Harry, and I've been playing the double bass since 2007! Being fresh out of school, I have a clear memory of the different stages of development as a musician. That's why I'm confident in my ability to teach students of any level or age group; I've been in your shoes, and I'm ready to help you reach your full potential!

As the product of a public school string education, I know how hard it can be to stay motivated outside the school year. I would be thrilled to work with you (and your child) to make realistic, attainable goals to work towards!

I teach through a traditional style where learning notation is paramount. Proper technique and finger placement will propel us into playing classical pieces and studies.

Learn how to play the upright bass in any style! Nate has 8 years of playing experience on upright bass, including a Berklee College of Music degree from the bass department. He has extensive experience playing upright bass in jazz, classical, and folk settings, and extensive practice reading and transcribing bass lines.

My goal as a teacher is to give you the facility to express yourself through music. The key parts to developing this facility are:

1. theory -- notice i say theory, not rules. learning music theory is not about learning rigid rules that will stifle your creativity. when you learn theory, you learn to identify patterns and give them names so you can remember and reuse them. the more you know your theory, the more ways you know to express your ideas
2. technique -- the last thing you want is for your technique to hinder your ability to express your idea. Having good technique lets your ideas flow naturally. and really, why would you not want to be the best you can be?

When you take lessons with me, you get out of it what you put in. Your job as student is to be honest with what you expect to achieve and my job as teacher is to give you the tools to achieve it

All styles, all levels- Classical, jazz, rock, blues, you name it! Emphasis on developing a good technique for playing in tune with ease!
