Private Singing Teacher

I work with people in regard to singing lessons since 2004 in both academic settings and private face-to-face instructions. The lesson's plans and general direction that it takes during the course of study substantially depends on the student's interests and preferences. Along with main subjects that motivates students most in taking voice lessons ( such as learning new songs from the contemporary popular repertoire, for instance), I will offer my prospective students basic training in general musicianship; this would enable people to sing, read written music, and understand the very basics of music theory. With such advantages at their hands, my students will be able to expand their singing repertoire and to move, probably, to another styles of music for singing and enjoying it for the sake of people's personal aesthetical development.

I have a M.M in vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and have extensive operatic training. I teach a technique that allows the singer to sing with freedom, and access their entire range evenly. I also work with students to develop style, interpretation, languages, and acting ability.

Singing:
I teach a World Famous Voice Method passed down to me by mentor the late, great Dante Pavone. Dante was born in Italy in 1910 to a famous Opera singing mother. He toured the whole world with her and they even sang with Caruso, the most famous Opera singer that ever lived. He was the first and a pioneer of popular singing. He taught everyone who was anybody including Aretha Franklin. One day there was a knock on his door and there were the Beatles! Dante would cure all wrecked voices and he cured mine, too. If you really want to learn the most solid breathing technique you will ever learn in your life you have come to the right place. I was told by one of Dante's students that singers from NY City Opera used to sneak up to Boston to study with Dante, because their teachers were ruining their voices and Dante would have to cure them. I am a rock singer, but this method works for any style or level. I can teach anyone to sing even the most tone deaf. Anyone can learn

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

"Collin has help me immensely by teaching me to be a more confident singer and has helped me in many different genres, traversing from both musical theater to punk music. He's even began give me dual singing/guitar lessons and I'd say he's tremendous at teaching both. He has a very-laid back and friendly demeanor and he's very flexible about his hours too which has made it easier if something needs to be pushed back or moved. I would definitely recommend Collin if you're looking for a singing or guitar teacher or both!"

"Tanisha is an Excellent Singing Teacher!

Tanisha is worth every minute of every lesson, every mile of the 40-minute drive, and every dime of her modest fee. My 13-year old daughter (excuse me, "about to be 14") has been taking singing lessons from Tanisha since early this year. After the first one-hour lesson, both my daughter and I walked away smiling from ear to ear. We were impressed and ecstatic, knowing that we were blessed to have literally stumbled upon someone of Tanisha's talents, personality, and passion for teaching.

Tanisha is always cheerful and pleasant and has a great sense of humor. She is honest with her criticism and encouraging at the same time. I have noticed a marked improvement in the strength of my daughter's voice and her singing confidence. Tanisha teaches my daughter how to use her voice healthfully so that she can have longevity as a singer. She teaches my daughter how to overcome voice issues, like hoarseness from having a cold, to deliver a good performance in spite of the problem. She teaches my daughter what happens when her voice doesn't come out right so my daughter knows how to recognize and correct it herself. We went from Tanisha asking my daughter "What happened that time?" when she hit a wrong note and my daughter shrugging her shoulders with a blank stare to my daughter answering with confidence, "I sang from my throat and didn't support."

Tanisha has challenged my daughter completely out of her comfort zone with great progress, and she teaches my daughter that it is ok to hit a bad note so she can learn how to fix it. She gives my daughter voice exercises to practice at home.

Tanisha is more than my daughter's vocal teacher. She teaches my daughter how to "perform" in front of the mirrored wall which is helping my daughter feel more confident singing in front of an audience. Tanisha relates to my daughter with endless funny analogies that my daughter loves. My daughter looks forward to every lesson, and she respects and looks up to Tanisha as a mentor as well as vocal teacher who, by the way, has an amazing voice herself and is gifted on the piano.

From the experience and progress that my daughter has gained with Tanisha, she is 100 times more confident with her singing than she was at the beginning of the year. Tanisha is awesome - more than we bargained for. You would be blessed to have her as a vocal teacher. We plan to start my daughter on piano lessons soon, and I'm toying with the idea of taking songwriting lessons from her."

"I've been working with Rachel for over a year and have LOVED every second of it. I'm a twenty-something professional who has always wanted to take voice lessons as a hobby and never in a million years would have thought I could make the improvements in my voice that I have with her. She's improved my range, and I'm now tackling songs that I would have always classified as "too hard" for me to sing. The way she breaks things down to learn is truly unprecedented (having taken lessons in other instruments, I know this to be true). I would recommend her to anyone apprehensive of taking the leap into voice lessons or those just looking to enhance the skills they already have!"
