My son is in 10th grade and has been studying Saxophone with Ian for almost 4 years. Ian is great on teaching, nice to student, always responsive to questions. Highly recommended.

Me and my 12-year-old son started saxophone two years ago together. Ian had a great guide to us who had never played the instrument. My growth is slow due to age issues, (of course satisfied) but my son's growth was great. My son now has a great deal of confidence as a jazz player, and he was able to work on other things positively too. We met Ian then became more into music and jazz. He is patient and will tell you until we can do. Ian is mainly jazz, but he is also very familiar with brass band and classical saxophone too. He is a working musician who do live performance, gig, and compose in various places. He loves music from the heart, his solo is so beatuiful. Ian's lessons has changed our life. We really grateful for giving us his time.

Flute:
A musical instrument in the woodwind group. Unlike woodwind instruments with reeds, a flute is an aerophone or reedless wind instrument that produces its sound from the flow of air across an opening. Starting with the basics we would first learn breathing and fingering techniques, notes, reading, rhythms, and songs. As the student progresses scales, theory and soloing will be taught.

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

We will work from the bottom up, starting with proper breathing and warm up exercises.
Scale work and technical drills are made fun through games and other means to keep things interesting :)
Repertoire work will be chosen according to experience level after basic assessment, we can work together to find something you enjoy playing.
Basic theory and music history will be addressed naturally as we work through new pieces!

I am more than happy to work on any other music you are currently playing for school or other ensembles.

Let's have fun and work hard!

My teaching philosophy is to help students discover and love music in their own way. I prioritize flexibility in the pace, teaching style, and tone of every lesson I give. I insist on a healthy and nurturing learning environment, rooted in positive feedback and joy for the art form. This learning environment allows the student to be more focused and openly invested in the process of discovering their own voice and a love of music. In addition to focusing on instrument fundamentals, I also spend lesson time on music theory, ear training, and rhythm studies to ensure a well rounded musician.

Gwen is a fantastic teacher! Several years ago, my then 3rd grader joined Gwen's homeschool one day a week for science, PE, field trips and recorder lessons. My daughter had a fabulous time! Gwen really is one of the best, most well-rounded homeschool teachers I know and is capable of integrating beyond these specific subjects she teaches. She really listens to your goals, concerns and needs and is creative in coming up with solutions... All so your child can learn most effectively!

Gwen did a fantastic job of teaching my struggling writer annotating literature and writing. She answered all of his questions, and gave advice when he struggled to understand the content. Her consistently positive attitude and outlook was a real encouragement to him.

"I have been trying to learn flute on my own, off and on for years. I can usually learn instruments on my own pretty easily, but had trouble learning the flute. I took two lessons so far with Katrina and learned the basics I had been missing, The things I am learning are things I would have never been able to learn on the internet. I drive 45 miles one way to take lessons from her and it is definitely worth it."

"This first lesson was very good. This was all about finding out what my daughter has learned thus far in playing her instrument. The instruction was very clear and the location was easy to get to. She was even given exercises to practice at home for the next lesson. Over all, I am very pleased with this first lesson."

"Amanda is an outstanding teacher. She inspires and challenges me to play pieces I did not think I could play. She is able to take difficult passages and break them down step my step so I can learn how to play them properly. I am sure I would not be playing as I am now, if it weren’t for Amanda’s skilled teaching. She is also friendly, makes the lessons interesting and fun and is very professional. I have taken lessons both in person and on Skype and she excels in both modes."

"We have had Elisa now for 2 lessons so far. My daughter was really nervous the first day, but Elisa was enthusiastic and encouraging. The process of learning a new student in such a short amount of time and finding ways to connect can be challenging. Elisa's expertise and love of teaching really helped bring Olivia out of her shell. We saw vast improvements just in these two 60 minute sessions. The customized lesson plan and assignment was a great idea. Olivia is eager to tell others about her lessons and what she's learned with Elisa. Thanks so much for all you do. What a great instructor."
