Ukulele:
Sometimes abbreviated to uke, it is a member of the lute family of instruments; it generally employs four nylon or gut strings or four courses of strings. Some strings may be paired in courses, giving the instrument a total of six or eight strings. The ukulele originated in the 19th century as a Hawaiian adaptation of the Portuguese machete, a small guitar-like instrument, which was introduced to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants, mainly from Madeira and the Azores. The tone and volume of the instrument vary with size and construction. Ukuleles commonly come in four sizes: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. If you just want to play songs I'm happy to teach you the songs you love. I can also teach you to become a musician by teaching from the beginning with the very basics of finger placement, reading, notes, rhythms, songs, scales, theory and improvisation....or, we can do both!

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

Teresa especially enjoys introducing beginners of all ages to the ukulele, which was her first musical passion as a young child. Her nurturing approach begins with the absolute basics.

Beginners need a ukulele that is an actual instrument rather than a toy. The most important difference is whether the instrument will stay in tune. If in doubt, stop in any music store and ask for help deciding whether you need to upgrade it.

Another note: all Teresa's beginning uke players ultimately sing too. But no need to mention that yet unless you want to! :)

About Teresa

A musician since age 4, Teresa's dad took her early passion for music seriously. So she respects the power that parents have to foster their children's musical lives! She notes the many stories she has heard over the years: "If someone had just supported my interest"... "If my teacher had listened t

I was looking for an instructor who could help me with a refresher on my piano skills from when I was much younger and Teresa was the perfect find. She walked me through an accelerated piano book and has been more than flexible with my hectic and unpredictable work schedule. Would recommend Teresa to any new or returning piano/keyboard players

A few spectacular things about Terese and music:

1. She's good on Zoom, not all teachers are. Very personable!
2. She's fun and practical. I am teaching music to children and teenagers. She knows all the tricks with these age groups, passes them on and makes it easy.
3. She's deeply rooted in music, and respects and appreciates all kinds of music.
4. Teresa is a pragmatist and realist. She helps the student exactly where his/her need is greatest. She uses our time together well.
5. She shares delightful music sheets by email. For an upcoming Halloween-themed class I'm teaching, she sent me some "scary" ghosts songs that fit the bill perfectly.

A great instrument to play! And LOTS of fun. You can be up and playing basic ukulele in a very short time, and as you progress, we will add all the rhythmic strums that make the ukulele come alive. The ukulele can cover almost every style of music there is...from traditional Hawaiian music to rock!... and everything in between. Let me show you how to express your inner musician with the ukulele. You will have a blast!

About Steve

Music has been a part of my life for over 5 decades. I stepped onstage when I was 15, and have been active in the music business ever since. I was raised in the New York / New England area, and played in many bands in the 70's and 80's, most notably the band AVALON. I moved to Florida in the late 80

Steve is a great instructor. He's knowledgeable and patient. I'm a beginner mandolin player but more experienced at guitar. Steve knows the right approach and progression to my lessons, incorporating the experience I already have. Highly recommend!

Steve actually researched a style of play that he was unfamiliar with to teach me. Obviously a master musician, he analyzed the basics of the style and started from my baseline, teaching me the technique from the ground up. A dedicated and friendly teacher, I'd recommend him to anyone.

I'm a professional musician and instructor, teaching various instruments for over ten years. My main instruments are guitar and drums/percussion, but I've also played and taught piano, mandolin, ukulele, and harmonica.

I would love to work with novice ukulele players of any age, to get you through the basics - chords, melodies, rhythms, strumming, finger-picking, and so much more! We can learn popular songs for the ukulele and/or talk about reading and writing music on the ukulele. I'll structure lessons according to the age, skill level, and interest of the student.

About Gio

I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums. I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is wha

"I always looked forward to Sean's lessons, even if I knew I hadn't practiced nearly enough because he always made the class's environment comfortable and conducive to learning--whether it be about the theory of my instrument, or background about a certain artist/song I'm interested in, or even figuring out how to combine music theory from various parts of the world and relate it to our lessons. He is well versed in a variety of musical topics which facilitated my transition from playing the piano to the ukulele. I thoroughly enjoyed my classes, always learned something new, and am excited to take more in the future :)"
