Flute:
A musical instrument in the woodwind group. Unlike woodwind instruments with reeds, a flute is an aerophone or reedless wind instrument that produces its sound from the flow of air across an opening. Starting with the basics we would first learn breathing and fingering techniques, notes, reading, rhythms, and songs. As the student progresses scales, theory and soloing will be taught.

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

I am very much a beginner. Ariana helped me with the fundamentals of mouth shape, breathing and air management, and the tongue/reed relationship. Most of all, Ariana helped me overcome my self consciousness in playing the clarinet with such an accomplished musician. She was fun, gracious and positive even with my rudimentary skills.

Dr. Ariana was a fantastic teacher. She makes learning fun by tailoring music choices to the student. She's also an outstanding communicator and educator who is able to make everything seems easier and more fun. Highly recommended.

My teaching experience includes students between the ages of 8 and 70. I believe in the individual approach and decide what music books and methods to use and recommend after the first few lessons with the student. Playing the flute is a great skill that lets you appreciate and express music. It also enhances your focus and the quickness of your mind since you think of a few things simultaneously while playing. For fun you can play your favorite song, compose one or play duets with your teacher.

I was apprehensive at first about doing flute lessons online without any background in Western Music Theory, and not even knowing how to make any sounds on the flute.

Samantha helped guide me through a structured series of lessons building upon music theory and notation as well as helping with the basics of hand placement and creating sounds.

She also helped me to learn new notes, scales and chords progressively, and pushed me to achieve far more than I would have been able to on my own in such a short span of time.

She was also really good about being flexible and accommodating to find a time that would suit us both for lessons, and was always punctual and on time for every session.

I would highly recommend her as a teacher!

WITH OVER 12,000 LESSONS TAUGHT, I Can Teach You How To Achieve
Your Dream of Becoming a Masterful Player !

My 30 years of teaching experience with an average student study of 6 years
quickly takes my Flute Beginners to Musical and Technical Artistry !

ONLINE REMOTE LEARNING IS MORE EFFECTIVE THAN IN-PERSON !

PLUS, THE “MASTERFUL FLUTE PLAYER” IS ALREADY INSIDE YOU !!
Over my nearly 4 decade career in Classical Music, I have crafted a teaching style that
minimizes practice time, maximizes progress and allows my students, ages 7 through
adult, to have fun while practicing.

I began my music education wanting to be a recitalist and orchestral player but my
career goals changed when I started teaching flute and saw how my students
needed to have a more solid direction than what they were experiencing.
I realized, largely due to Conservatory training in the art of teaching private
flute lessons, that I had the insights into helping them achieve their aspirations
to play ...

Hi, I am lucky to have found Julie very early in life so that I can make the most of
my high school years. I began studying flute with her a few years
ago. I was extremely shy and frankly not functioning very well. My academics
were not the problem but it was the "social thing". Even though I knew who I was,
I was always thrown off by how I was supposed to fit in the world.

It's like Julie rolled up her sleeves and went to work. I felt loved, safe and
important ! She started teaching me the flute and through her love of music and
life she taught me to trust myself and that is when my life changed. Everything
began to "click" and for the first time I was not afraid.

I now have many friends, still excelling in my academics but am now working on
difficult solos and orchestral excerpts. I look forward with courage and am
enjoying life instead of fearing it. My problems are problems many young
people experience I think.

In my experience as a member of her flute studio I saw her take a student from
absolute beginner to auditioning for the Boston Symphony Youth Orchestra
performing solos at age 18 that are entrance audition pieces for acceptance
into Yale University's Graduate Program. though my goals in music
are not as serious, she treats me with the same love and caring as her students
who have career aspirations in music.

Julie helps develop that confidence in those who sorely need to feel they have the
right to belong. For a teacher, Julie has it all.
Sophie
Julie's method of teaching is so thorough that it took me from level one solos to
level six in just three years. She is the kind of teacher that makes you want to
practice hard and do well for her !

I began my studies with Julie when I was just ten years old. I am now thirteen.
At nine I also studied piano and violin but it wasn't long after that I dropped the
other two instruments to focus solely on Flute because Julie made each lesson
so much fun !

She also encourages participation in sports and always values high academic
achievement. She wants me to be a "well rounded" student with a positive
attitude so I will be successful not only in my high school years but throughout
my college years and beyond.

She is giving me the gift of music to take with me on my journey through life.
Julie takes the time to listen if I had a rough day and has even attended one
of my field hockey games and varsity swim meets. She says that seeing how
I function in other venues helps her to fine tune her approach to teaching me
the flute.

Start with 45 minute lessons but quickly advance to 60 minute lessons to get
the most out of every session with Julie. They are so valuable !
Laurelle
It is because of Julie's expertise and dedication that I am now successfully
playing the flute and performing in several select groups locally, achieving high
scores in competitions and beautifully expressing myself in solo recitals.
All of this would not have happened without her tenacity and I am so grateful.

I now sit first chair in my high school"select" wind ensemble but it wasn't always like
that. When I was nine I began playing the flute and my mother found me a private
flute teacher named Julie. I was quite a challenge for her because I was extremely
shy and didn't talk much. In fact, it took me several years to muster up a few
words even though there were a lot of thoughts going on in my head.

Julie was so kind and patient with me. It was like she knew exactly the anxiety I
was feeling and little by little after a few years gradually I was able to express
myself out loud. She knew of my intelligence and passions and made it her
quest to help me communicate so I could find more enjoyment in life.

When Covid hit and everyone went into remote learning, Julie gave all her students
a second free lesson per week because she wanted to keep us motivated and
positive. She is truly amazing !!

She is able to take difficult passages and break them down step my step so I can learn how to play them properly. I am sure I would not be playing as I am now, if it weren’t for Amanda’s skilled teaching. She is also friendly, makes the lessons interesting and fun and is very professional. "My daughter took naturally to the flute and my biggest concern has always been whether or not she was being challenged enough. When we first started lessons with Jenna, I asked my daughter how her lessons were going and she said "Jenna's showing me new stuff." It was the first time I started to hear her struggle to make some notes come out. It's been a few years now and I can still hear my daughter having to focus while she practices. I can see her continuing to get better and build skills.

As a parent, I appreciate how Jenna tries to bring diversity and fresh musical influences to her lessons. I like that Jenna incorporates music history and looks for new ways for the kids to work and learn together."
