I have been teaching math for several years now and understand the need for a good foundation. I work with students to find any concepts they have missed or do not fully understand. My goal in teaching math is always comprehension not grades. After laying a good foundation, it is amazing to see the improvement and success my students have had!

I've been studying mathematics for 7+ years, and have tutored at the high school and undergraduate level. In the first class, we will discuss your goals and what you hope to take away from the classes, and customize a plan for your best interests. I specialize in theoretical computer science, combinatorics, graph theory, and discrete math, and typically either follow a textbook in a specific topic, or generate problems and exercises to work through with the student. I try to design my sessions so that students learn what they like to learn, while also developing a foundation and mathematical maturity for higher levels. I love working with students of all ages and levels, and I can't wait to meet you!

About Baris

I'm a PhD student in Computer Science at MIT, focusing on algorithmic bioinformatics and complexity theory. I graduated with a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science from MIT in 2020. Math has always come naturally to me throughout my time in school. Although I am pretty proficient in math, it is needed and recommended that you check in with me the specifics of everything that you need help with prior to our lessons that way I can refresh my memory. It is also recommended that you be very specific with what you need help in to ensure that you are getting the material with which you are struggling.

For elementary students, I am proficient enough to teach the basic math principles and subjects like multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction.

For middle and high school students, I am proficient enough to teach algebra principles within pre-algebra and algebra 1. I do not have the proficiency to teach geometry or algebra 2 at the moment. For algebra 2 lessons, I will need the material prior to the lesson to "refresh" my memory.

Thank you.

I am a passionate and enthusiastic STEM educator with over 5 years of experience working with students of all ages, including students attending Ivy League universities and students with learning differences.

I specialize in teaching the science and math components of STEM. These subjects are often the most challenging subjects students encounter; they are also deeply intertwined with one another. Thus, it can be very beneficial to have a single tutor who is well-versed in a variety of subjects. I strive to break down the barriers between individual topics and help my students understand these subjects on a deeper level. Ultimately, I aim to not only help my students overcome academic challenges, but also to lead them to becoming autonomous, independent learners. I strive to empower my students and instill them with intrinsic motivation to learn so they can reach their full potential.

I believe education is not one-size-fits all. Every student is unique. What works or makes sense ...

She is able to help my kids see how to do the problems they are stuck on, but also do it in a way that the concepts stick with them so they can build on it and use it in later applications. "I do not know what we would have done without Sharon to tutor our son in Calculus. She helped him work through areas in which he would get stuck and encourage him along the way. We were also able to have her help tutor our younger son in Algebra when he hit a concept that needed to be explained in more detail. I personally appreciate how positive and encouraging she is when the student feels like they can't figure out the problem. I'm sure my son will reach out to her for tutoring next year in college."

"Daniel tutored my teenage son in Algebra and Geometry for over one year. During that time, my son's grades increased and he became more confident with Math, in general. His time with Daniel set him up for success in Algebra 2 this year (11th grade). Daniel was always on time, very polite and courteous with my son! Highly recommend his tutoring service."

Thank you for all of your help Marc you are the 5th tutor I’ve had and the only one who didn’t get frustrated when I didn’t understand and actually cared. You’re a gem and thanks to you I can finally move on to higher ed. I’m graduating but I’m going to leave you the best review I can and recommend. Please stay a tutor if you have the ability to in the future (I hope you do lol) and if you are I’ll message you if I have any more calc in grad school. Once again thank you for everything marc. You’re the best.""
