Bassoon:
A woodwind instrument in the double reed family that typically plays music written in the bass and tenor clefs, and occasionally the treble. Appearing in its modern form in the 19th century, the bassoon figures prominently in orchestral, concert band, and chamber music literature. The bassoon is a non-transposing instrument known for its distinctive tone colour, wide range, variety of character and agility. Listeners often compare its warm, dark, reedy timbre to that of a male baritone voice. Someone who plays the bassoon is called a bassoonist. The lessons will consist of breathing and finger techniques, learning notes and rhythms and how to read. Very quickly songs will be incorporated and as the student progresses we will work on learning scales and how to solo.

About Karen

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

I earned my Masters of Music in Bassoon Performance at University of North Carolina, Greensboro and my Bachelors of Music in Bassoon Performance from Sacramento State University. I have been coaching woodwind players and freelancing for the last 10 years in Los Angeles, New York, and back home in New Hampshire. Growing up, I heard my sister practicing the clarinet couldn't wait to get started with music lessons. In high school, I was handed a bassoon from a dusty closet in band and immediately started learning and playing. Going into college, I met my first bassoon teacher who changed my life and opened doors like my first scholarship to study at university. Today, I play creative music of all genres and will help each student find music that they enjoy playing.

Music lessons are an opportunity to facilitate skill acquisition, self-expression, and strategic planning to meet new goals. Ideally the teacher and student agree to treat each musical idea with a unique attention, where the student learns by way of the teachers experience and insightful guidance, and the teacher also learns through live interaction with the student. I believe this type of learning to

"Lee Quick has been an exceptional online bassoon instructor for our 15 year old from middle school into high school. We have had experience with face to face lessons with two other highly regarded private instructors and, in comparison, the online lessons with Lee have been consistently enjoyable and a highlight of the week for our daughter. Lee provided very helpful hints and tips for perfecting performances with the school orchestra the regional youth orchestra. Lee also helped our daughter sustain her interest and skill on the instrument by providing music and suggestions for exercises and continued development when she was not formally involved in any performance programs. Highly recommended."
