Some people might fare better with this instructor. More chatting than instructing. Usually telling stories trying to sell himself and talk about how great he is. Delusional ideas about your relationship. Accusatory. Takes things personally. Burns bridges. Claims to be a vocal therapist but doesn't do any vocal therapy. Can provide bad advice and medical information.

This was my first piano lesson in 50 years. It was everything I hoped it would be... intellectual, fun, relaxed... and it filled me with hope that I could finally make something out of a musical instrument I left in the dust so many years ago. Jimi is wonderful to talk with and work with. This was beyond my expectations.

I’m 80 years old and play sax in a Senior band. I signed up for several lessons with Jimi Z. to improve my tone and breathing. I think Jimi did a great job with me, and I recommend Jimi for sax lessons. Dan Ginsberg

I teach singers of all genres (country, classical, pop, bluegrass, rock…) to sing with confidence and freedom!

I have a M.M in vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and have extensive operatic training. I teach a technique that allows the singer to sing with freedom, and access their entire range evenly. I also work with students to develop style, interpretation, languages, and acting ability.

Healthy singing is a multifaceted endeavor. It requires synergistic engagement not only between the vocal folds and vocal tract but also between the entirety of the body and the perceptive mind, regardless of genre or style. My teaching addresses and fuses each component of this pivotal trio comprising mind, body, and voice. The result will allow your instrument to find a newfound freedom of expression, progressively giving you the increased power and the agility to emote in a multitude of styles across the vocal spectrum.

Recognizing singing as a deeply individual experience, I am a fervent advocate of student empowerment. My job is to bestow you and guide you with the fundamental technical tools that you can then use to earn the gratification of becoming your own best teacher for whatever you desire to sing. Although I specialize in classical technique and employ it as a foundational anchor, my holistic approach is adaptable across the range of age, level, and style and can be ...

I started taking lessons with Max a few months ago to learn foundational techniques, as I was a complete beginner with no prior singing experience. I thoroughly enjoyed Max’s unique scientific approach to teaching! The body mapping and awareness techniques he taught me have helped me not only in singing, but in all areas of my life. My posture is better than it has ever been! Max’s teachings have revolutionized how I think about my voice. I would highly recommend him to anyone starting out.

Max started from the beginning and taught me about the fundamentals of singing (often from a scientific and holistic perspective), helped me to improve my technique, and gave me the tools to continue practicing and improving my singing. I'd happily schedule more lessons with Max when I have the time and space in my life for lessons.
Jackson
Max is an excellent instructor. I appreciate how we started from the very basics, working on the fundamentals of my posture and breathing before we launched into singing. Max is also a very thoughtful and patient teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed my lesson.

Private Singing Teacher

I work with people in regard to singing lessons since 2004 in both academic settings and private face-to-face instructions. The lesson's plans and general direction that it takes during the course of study substantially depends on the student's interests and preferences. Along with main subjects that motivates students most in taking voice lessons ( such as learning new songs from the contemporary popular repertoire, for instance), I will offer my prospective students basic training in general musicianship; this would enable people to sing, read written music, and understand the very basics of music theory. With such advantages at their hands, my students will be able to expand their singing repertoire and to move, probably, to another styles of music for singing and enjoying it for the sake of people's personal aesthetical development.

"One of the best music teachers I've ever had

For two decades, I've learned I was singing wrong, at the advice of other vocal teachers. Fawn identified my issue within moments, shocking me to my core. But you know what? Hitting notes is nowhere near the struggle it once was. I'm so much more confident in so many areas now. Her ear is impeccable. I so look forward to each of our lessons now. I am learning at such an incredible pace. The best part is it's developing how I need to go, and I'm not begin forced into some other person's idea. It's been such a growth. I wish I'd had this twenty years ago.

Her studio is an actual recording studio, which is really inspiring to be inside. There's a huge digital piano and a big Mackie board and a new Mac with the new Logic, which she uses to record and play back my voice. That's so convenient. It's a perfect musical environment.

She's always shown up on time for our lessons, and ended promptly. She's REALLY busy and in demand, so there's always someone right before and after me. I've spoken to them, and everyone's always smiling.

She's also worked with me when I needed to reschedule a lesson, which is cool of her. She didn't have to do that, but shuffled things around for me before an important gig so I could practice with her before.

I couldn't be happier!"

"Brookins is the most fun and professional teacher ever.

I have been under the direction of Ms. Brookins since the age of 5 and have nothing but good things to say. First of all, Brookins can teach anyone anything. I 've never seen someone take lessons from her and not learn something. I took piano, clarinet, and singing lessons from Ms. Brookins and am very proud everything that she taught me. From the practices, lessons, and at home exercises, Ms. Brookins makes sure that all of her students get the time in that they need to do their best.
Besides her outstanding professionalism, Ms. Melodie Brookins is so much fun to learn from and be around. She has a ton of jokes and many great ways to help remember things about your music. I would know nothing about music had it not been for Ms. Brookins. From 5 to 17 years of age she was my teacher and mentor and for those 12 years I couldn't have asked for a better person to teach me."
