Blues Guitar:
There are so many styles of blues to choose from and in our class we will touch on the ones that especially interest the student.
Starting with the basics (learning notes, chords, rhythms, techniques and scales) we will also be learning different picking and strumming techniques, playing slide, learning songs and soloing.

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

Mr. Jesse is a very effective teacher and my 16 year old daughter has progressed very quickly in playing classical guitar and violin in just under two years. The lessons are very productive while still being very enjoyable. I'd recommend him for both for students who are learning a new instrument or already have a musical background.

Extremely knowledgeable teacher. I wanted to understand the music theory, not just how to memorize chords. James is a great instructor for this because his whole approach is understanding the why, not just the how. Also very flexible and available for his students.

As someone who came in with little to no experience playing an instrument, Jimmy was the perfect start for my musical journey. He taught me not only the fundamentals of the bass guitar, but also the fundamentals of music in general, which I can carry with me as I develop as a musician. Highly reccomended.

I TEACH all of my students - beginning beginners through advanced - that what seems complicated is nothing more than a bunch of simple things put together. The next step in your learning guitar is simple. We just need to identify it and learn it. No matter what skills you already have - or if you are just getting started - we can identify what you already know and build on top of it. If you have holes in your skillset (everybody does!), we can identify them and fill them in.

DID YOU KNOW that a lot of fingerstyle guitar moves and improvisation are EASIER than some types of strumming? Beginning and intermediate guitar players learn a lot of "campfire" techniques - how to strum a certain way, how to form certain chords. And this is really good. But there is a whole bunch of other techniques few players know that are just as simple. Just as easy. And when you learn them you will stand out as the accomplished guitar player you can be.

THE RESULT is that you will learn a ...

"Pat was an awesome instructor. I have a few years of experience with guitar, but I was still able to learn a ton, especially about slide and blues guitar. Pat kept notes on what we were talking about and followed up each week. There’s no one else I’d recommend if you’re trying to learn slide or blues guitar."

"Ahmad has opened up the world of music to me. Before I started taking lessons with Ahmad, music was simply something I enjoyed listening to, but was a bit of an abstraction. I had always wanted to learn an instrument, specifically the guitar, but had suffered an injury to my finger when I was a teenager and thought there was little point in trying with a significant handicap. Now at middle age I decided to try anyway.

For two years I've been taking lessons with Ahmad every week or two and have found a lifelong hobby. Ahmad has been patient and understanding to my level of ability and has guided me to not only improve dramatically my level of playing, but also has taught me the basic fundamentals of music which makes me appreciate listening to and playing music more than I ever had. Ahmad is a gifted teacher who can quickly uncover and fix fundamental problems with technique and builds lesson plans to teach one how to play the guitar as a musical instrument.

I am so happy I found Ahmad. He has given me a lifelong passion to improve my playing and a deeper understanding of the music I've loved my entire life. If you've ever thought about learning the guitar, do yourself a favor and see Ahmad now."

"Phil is a phenomenal teacher - right from the start, he will get you on track with exercises and practice routines that keep you focused on learning to play the guitar. He will cover the areas that you must know to become proficient on the guitar, including forms, modes, chords and progressing toward learning to read music.

After struggling to teach myself to play the guitar, I realized that I had hit a wall in my self-instructed learning and I needed to find a guitar teacher. I found Phil through word of mouth - and I have made great progress under his tutelage.

If you want to learn to play the guitar, Phil is the teacher you want - if you just want to learn to play songs, well, there’s YouTube."

"I have been taking lessons with Eric for almost three years and I would highly recommend him to anyone thinking about taking any kind of music lessons. I initially started with blues guitar lessons because I wanted to be able to play my favorite songs or maybe impress girls. Over the years Eric got me interested in so much more.

I learned music theory, jazz standards, improvisation, fingerstyle techniques, how to play and sing at the same time, and how to write and record my own songs. He inspired me to take on piano as a second instrument, initially through him but eventually through classically trained instructor.

What started as basic guitar lessons for a potential hobby turned into my tiny apartment becoming cluttered with musical instruments and audio recording equipment. For this I only have Eric to thank."

"I was very impressed, satisfied and happy about my guitar lessons with Greg.
I'm German and booked just 5 lessons due to travel reasons. There was very vage input from me to Greg when we started (I always play the same; want to get new ideas; ...). Greg did not just provide a regular standard lesson. He focused and addressed 100%+ my desires and needs. Greg provided me very conrete and great input in several aspects to what I can do to improve my guitar playing. This was very useful to me and enabled me to move my guitar play forward. I highly recommend Greg to anybody."

5 Blues Guitar Secrets That Will Make You a Better Player

Learning how to play blues guitar? Pay extra attention to these five things from guitar teacher Mike B.... 1. In Tune Bends The blues guitar style is full of bending strings. Bends, as well as hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides, give guitarists the ability to imitate the way singers use various inflections while singing melodies. However, unlike hammers-ons and slides, bends are not guaranteed to be in tune. Since there is nothing worse than an out-of-tune bend in the climax of a great solo …
