I have extensive training in musical theatre and have been in several productions. I have a M.M. in vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and have extensive vocal training. I teach an open throat technique (appoggio) that allows the singer to sing with freedom, and access their entire range evenly. I also work with students to develop style, interpretation, languages, and acting ability.

About Benjamin

I have extensively studied vocal performance for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have a Master of Vocal Performance Degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. Healthy singing is a multifaceted endeavor. It requires synergistic engagement not only between the vocal folds and vocal tract but also between the entirety of the body and the perceptive mind, regardless of genre or style. My teaching addresses and fuses each component of this pivotal trio comprising mind, body, and voice. The result will allow your instrument to find a newfound freedom of expression, progressively giving you the increased power and the agility to emote in a multitude of styles across the vocal spectrum.

Recognizing singing as a deeply individual experience, I am a fervent advocate of student empowerment. My job is to bestow you and guide you with the fundamental technical tools that you can then use to earn the gratification of becoming your own best teacher for whatever you desire to sing. Although I specialize in classical technique and employ it as a foundational anchor, my holistic approach is adaptable across the range of age, level, and style and can be ...

I started taking lessons with Max a few months ago to learn foundational techniques, as I was a complete beginner with no prior singing experience. I thoroughly enjoyed Max’s unique scientific approach to teaching! The body mapping and awareness techniques he taught me have helped me not only in singing, but in all areas of my life. My posture is better than it has ever been! Max’s teachings have revolutionized how I think about my voice. I would highly recommend him to anyone starting out.

Max started from the beginning and taught me about the fundamentals of singing (often from a scientific and holistic perspective), helped me to improve my technique, and gave me the tools to continue practicing and improving my singing. I'd happily schedule more lessons with Max when I have the time and space in my life for lessons.
Jackson
Max is an excellent instructor. I appreciate how we started from the very basics, working on the fundamentals of my posture and breathing before we launched into singing. Max is also a very thoughtful and patient teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed my lesson.

Broadway Singing:
If you like Broadway and you love to sing, you came to the right place:) Have fun singing all the songs you love while learning this World Famous Vocal Technique passed down to me by mentor Dante Pavone. Have fun or become better than all the competition. With my method anyone can learn to sing or play any instrument. I can teach even the most tone deaf or someone with who thinks they absolutely no talent. You will love it!

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

Some people might fare better with this instructor. More chatting than instructing. Usually telling stories trying to sell himself and talk about how great he is. Delusional ideas about your relationship. Accusatory. Takes things personally. Burns bridges. Claims to be a vocal therapist but doesn't do any vocal therapy. Can provide bad advice and medical information.

This was my first piano lesson in 50 years. It was everything I hoped it would be... intellectual, fun, relaxed... and it filled me with hope that I could finally make something out of a musical instrument I left in the dust so many years ago. Jimi is wonderful to talk with and work with. This was beyond my expectations.

"I've been studying with Mary Elizabeth since August and have seen a serious improvement in my voice! Her lessons are fun and engaging and I have been able to build my repertoire. I feel much more comfortable in an audition setting because of the variety of things I have learned. I've been practicing various types of music like classical/contemporary musical theatre and I have a stronger understanding of the music in general! I would highly recommend taking lessons with her."

"Mary Elizabeth really helped me with expression in my singing. I loved working with her in a Master Class and learned so much about technique and bringing the placement of my voice more forward. She had great ideas to help me portray the character in my song. Her work with me helped me gain confidence in my recent audition to be a voice major in college where I was offered a full scholarship."

"Kristin is a great teacher. She's very patient and knowledgeable about musical theatre. I was nervous at my first lesson. But she listened to my expectations and what I wanted out of the lessons, and tailored the lesson to those expectations. Plus she gave me vocal excercises to help me a better singer, have fun, and enjoy the whole experience. Highly recommended."

"I have Molly R. to thank for getting me out of my fear of singing. At first, I was so nervous that I couldn't even sing along to the radio with my friends! I met her through a class with Boldly Me, and then ended up taking lessons with her to prepare for my first big audition with StarStruck (I know right? I love performing but I get shy about singing). Though I didn't get in, she had given me that boost of confidence and the arsenal of skills/tricks that I needed to keep trying. I worked with her again to audition for Stage1's "Seussical"- and got in as the "lead Wickersham"!!
Molly has helped me with so much; she teaches you beyond what you could expect of yourself and guides you to your fullest potential.. all while keeping it fun and comfortable!! Molly doesn't just help you learn how to sing, she helps you learn to love to sing."

"Miss Drake taught a 3 hour Master Class for my 12 students. She was excellent in helping each student with their vocal technique and acting in the songs. She was able to creatively engage each student and pinpoint specific ways to help them improve their singing. It was amazing to watch students respond to her suggestions and see the improvement in their performances. Her expertise, performing background and energy made the class a fun learning experience! I highly recommend her as a voice teacher!"
