I have started playing chess at the age of 6, and fell in love with the game. I started competing in Nationally Ranked Tournaments at the age of 7 and I kept feeling the drive to compete. I competed in about 150 tournaments since, ranging from small local tournaments to national events. My journey to obtaining the national master title was long and difficult. I got stuck at almost every rating range imaginable. However, in Summer 2019, I finally achieved the National Master title with a National Rating of 2214.

I am still actively playing chess and improving! My current USCF peak rating is 2241 and my current FIDE peak rating is 2119.

Throughout my playing career, I have always loved tutoring chess. The beginnings of my teaching career started with starting a chess club in a non-profit organization in Southern California. I built a curriculum to teach students to play from scratch. I have since taught group classes and private lessons, to students whose skill levels range from not ...

I will teach you the great game of chess! I am experienced in teaching players of all ages, from total beginners to the high intermediate range of 1600-1700 ELO.

I will help you absorb key motifs and strategic plans in an enjoyable way, by guiding you through a carefully selected set of brilliant games and thematic positions which will boost your understanding. To balance out this conceptual work, we will learn concrete chess thought processes which are actually applicable throughout life: how to use the principle of falsification to sort good-looking moves from truly effective ones, how to manage your time both in training and over the board, how to select an opening and prepare a repertoire, and how to evaluate and understand any chess position. Ambitious players, including kids looking to break into tournament play, can look forward to my tried and tested methods for rapid chess improvement, which are based around rigorous tactical training, while casual players looking for a ...

Hassan went above and beyond as a chess instructor. Before we met, he went thru my games and familiarized himself with how I play and found my weaknesses. When we joined the call, he had some sample positions for me to analyze and did a great job explaining how I should approach that position. Hassan also frequently took the time to make sure I understood the concept and made sure to come up with sample situations for any question that I had. Within 1 lesson, I felt that I had much better grasp of how to improve and what I need to work on. Strongly recommend Hassan to anyone who wants to take their chess game to the next level

Hassan is amazing! He helped me gain a new perspective, and better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses. His personalised list of tactics to practice and grandmaster games to study has helped me tremendously to improve. He continues to support and guide me post-lesson. A highly recommended instructor!

I met Hassan over video call, and sent him a lichess study of my previous classical games. He was incredibly flexible, helpful, and instructive. He was tremendously good at teaching patterns, middlegame planning, as well as giving me general opening advice. I would wholeheartedly recommend him as an instructor.

At age 11 I achieved the title of Master, and since then have become an International Master (with 1 Grandmaster norm), 5-time National Champion and am currently the #1 18-year-old on the west coast of the United States. Without chess instruction from the most patient, inspiring, and hardworking chess coaches none of this would have been possible.

I began to play chess at 7 years old and after my coach ended our first class by saying, "Every champion was once a beginner" my youthful imagination ran wild and I was hooked. My early development in chess proved to be nontraditional where my structured classes provided by my school were supplemented by the aggressive, unconventional playing styles I learned from spending my weekends sneaking games in with hustlers at my local chess park. Yet learning these vastly different approaches to the game allowed me to become a more complete player, and after 6 weeks of practice, I could beat every kid in my class and almost defeated my coach. ...

Hiro is expert, fun and patient with our 8 year old. Our son is a newer player - beginner/intermediate (he learned basics at his school in second grade but a lot further to go)- and really gets excited and engaged with the game when Hiro plays and teaches him.

If you're a self-taught chess player that's hit a plateau, and are looking for a coach that's knowledgeable, a good listener, and knows how to help you grow from where you currently are - I'd highly recommend Jameson.

He doesn't spoonfeed you concepts, but instead shows just enough and allows you to work them out yourself, which is how I prefer to learn anyway. Also, he carefully looks over your games to find patterns, areas of improvement, and the habits that are leading to your victories or defeats.

He's not just a knowledgeable chess player, it's clear that he's an experienced chess coach.

5 Chess Moves That Will Surprise Your Opponent

Chess: Undoubtedly the ultimate head-to-head mental contest, an ancient game of strategy in which  your one and only goal is to outsmart and defeat your opponent’s army (represented of course by the pieces on the board). Chess moves that surprise your opponent are part and parcel of the game, and it would thus behoove you, the player and aspiring chess master, to learn moves that will catch your opponent off guard and bring you victory. And so, without further ado, here are 5 moves to do that …

5 Chess Moves to Up Your Endgame

The end of the game has come. You have successfully out-maneuvered and outfought your opponent, conquering large swaths of the chessboard, and approaching that triumphal moment when you will topple the opponent’s king and declare that he has fallen---in other words, a checkmate (recall that “checkmate” is an anglicization of “shah mat”, Persian for “the king is dead”)… Only to realize that you don’t quite know how to finish the game, which inevitably results in a slapsti …

6 Tips For Improving Your Chess Game

Back around 2014, I decided I was going to improve at chess. I watched a few videos online about some openings, played a few dozen blitz games online, and then promptly lost interest within a week. Four years later, I decided to pick it up again and in less than a year, I had gone from 1100 to 1900 Elo rating online. Obviously, I changed how I went about my improvement! So here are the steps that I took the second time around that got me to where I am now, and some ways you can improve your ches …
