⛩ Calm your mind and find inner peace by understanding the philosophy and art of traditional Japanese writing.
Japanese calligraphy is one of the most well-known and popular of the traditional arts of Japan. It’s called shodō (書道) in Japanese, which literally means the way of writing. Shodō has a very long history. However, it’s still practiced today and it’s a popular class in school, from elementary school to university.

🏯 Shodō is closely linked to Zen Buddhism and is influenced by its ideas and values. Japanese calligraphy goes far beyond simply writing characters or words. The calligrapher only has one chance, since the brush strokes can’t be corrected. To express a deep meaning, the work must show the emotions, personality, and passion of the artist. It is also said that the way of writing is the path to enlightenment.

The reviews of Toshi outlined a tutor who was fully devoted to the craft of teaching the Japanese language. They were accurate with their description of this amazing tutor. None of the reviews are inflated. Toshi makes the pain of the language tolerable while delivering accurate information - grammar and vocabulary. I would highly recommend him for learners at any level.

"Margot is a great instructor and a born teacher. She immediately connects with each student. She asks everyone’s name and then remembers it, which is quite impressive with a large group.
She can teach to all levels of ‘artistic’ ability. She offers assistance and guidance so the finished product truly belongs to the student.
I have been to two of Margot’s classes. I have zero artistic ability, yet I left with a card (Valentine and Mother’s Day), that I was proud to share."

"Margot G. is a wonderful teacher. She has the ability to immediately set her students at ease, regardless of their abilities and experiences. (I have extremely poor handwriting, and did not feel intimidated or afraid to try to learn how to do brush strokes and create surprisingly pleasing cards and notes.) Margot knows her craft, and knows how to teach and then offer support to her students. The class was entertaining as well as fun. I learned many skills in a short time period."
