Good habits and an excellent attitude make great cellists. It doesn't hurt to love music too. I love music and I love to share my passion with my students.
Having a teacher who is an experienced performer is an important quality in a teacher. I am a professional classical musician currently working as a freelance cellist in the Chicago area. I play with Chicago Philharmonic, the Northbrook Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Northwest Indiana Symphony, among others. Before coming to Chicago I played for 13 seasons with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.
I have taught privately for over 10 years including 2 years in Paris. My teaching is a reflection of my teacher, Phillippe Muller. I studied with Msr. Muller while studying at the Paris Conservatory. Msr. Muller is currently a Professor of Cello at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
About Wei
Even though I have been teaching and performing on the cello for most of my life, it's not all there is to who I am. I am a chef (almost--12 weeks to go), a mom, a wife. I have a cute little Tibetan Terrier that loves visitors. My husband and I love hiking in beautiful places. Studying with me

Having 20+ years of playing experience, and 10+ years of professional experienced cello teaching, I feel very comfortable helping my students understand the foundations of cello technique.
My lessons are structured very clearly with some technique work at the beginning, whether it be scales or a study, followed by a piece or work we’ll work on together to finish off the lesson.
In addition, I send each of my students off with their very own practice regiment and practice journal/log ✍️, that they can use to track their own progress throughout their week, keep track of their assignments, and lastly, write out any comments or questions that come up in between lessons.
I also share music and other supplemental materials to my students when possible in these practice regiments, so that they do not always have to purchase it or search for it themselves :)
I’m happy to help and guide my students however they need it :)
Here’s some more background on me:

She knows so much about the instrument but does a great job starting with the fundamentals of the cello and then moving forward at whatever pace you are comfortable with. I have seen her teach any age (5-83) and any skill level (total beginner to working pro), all with the same focused attention and dedication to the student.
5/5 would recommend to anyone interested in learning this beautiful instrument! This price is a total bargain!

Who made your cello? Who carved the body, stained, varnished, and assembled the instrument, including the label visible through the f-hole which bears their signature? Many musicians consider the maker of their instrument, or luthier, a point of pride. There are famous luthiers, like Stradivari and Guarneri, whose names are synonymous with masterpieces of craftsmanship. These masters innovated many of the standards for modern stringed instruments, and so many luthiers might include on the la …

Pursuing a career in music is a risky decision, because by the nature of the industry few artists can “make it big.” Most artists aren’t pop stars, or even full-time career musicians, and all musicians also teach to remedy this. There are many paths to becoming a professional cello player, and depending on where you start it might be easy or hard to earn a reputation and start making money. I followed an academic path, studying classical music at university and then continuing my research …

Let’s face it - the world isn’t always set up to help people who are left handed! If you play the cello, you might be wondering, “can you play the cello left-handed”? The short answer to this question is…well, kind of. However, there are considerations you will need to make before deciding to play in the cello left hand position - or before going out to buy a left handed cello, for that matter. First, what do we mean when we say “left handed”? Handedness is the sense tha …
