I've been teaching 20 years. Classical Guitar technique is the foundation for most fingerpicking styles. Exploring the repertoire of Bach, the classic guitar composers - Sor, Guliani, Carcassi and learning how to arrange melodies for the guitar even if not written for guitar are some of the goals when I teach this style. My specialty is Brazilian Guitar and I have available vast repertoire of guitar music for the "Classical Guitar" plus I've explored the works of Piazolla and Leo Brouwer to name 2 guitarists. For Beginners we begin with 2 fingers, basic reading, getting a feel for your instrument, all made fun through the use of melodic material from various sources, sometimes pop tunes chosen by the student

The classical guitar is a rich and powerful instrument that has a long history. It has been developed like many instruments such as the piano, and today the guitar has a very powerful influence on modern music. However, the beautiful sounds from the past eras of music, Renaissance, Baroque, and Romanic composers have created wonderful and mysterious pieces that feature this incredible instrument. My goal is to help people who are interested in this type of music be able to perform and reproduce these amazing sounds.

My own former guitar teacher once told me, "Guitar is one of the easiest instruments to play, but the most difficult to master." Now that I teach guitar including theory, I understand exactly what he meant.
We will start with finger-strengthening exercises while learning basic music fundamentals; then on to sight reading, string by string, note by note; we will learn to group notes together (chords) a bit later (after you have mastered the rest and free strokes.
Be prepared to purchase Hal Leonard's Classical Guitar Course (or Finger-Style Guitar (I get 30% off retail), and/or A Modern Approach to Classical Guitar (including Easy Classical Guitar Duets - both of these can be bought on Amazon). Other supplies: metronome/tuner, picks, and a classical-nylon stringed guitar of course.
Music contains two things: pitch and rhythm, so using a metronome right from the beginning will help you learn rhythm if you have problems in that area (many students do). We will do ...

Over the past five months, I've already seen significant improvement in both my guitar performance as well as my understanding of the guitar and music in general. Ahmad is very good at balancing the scale between creativity and technique, while never losing sight of what your goals are as a student. As with any learning process, I would suggest you understand your own goals and level of commitment before jumping in to lessons. As I've seen, Ahmad will probably motivate you to practice more than you originally thought, which I really appreciate. It's with practice and strong understanding that I've gotten to a point where I am proud of my abilities on the guitar. Work with Ahmad and I hope you find the same!"

Mr. Richard, as we call him, has been fantastic with my 7 year old son. His early recommendations maximized my son's guitar interaction and the visible (audible?) progress being made actively encourages practice at home.
Mr. Richard is able to give simplified homework that my son can understand. As opposed to "practice for 20 minutes per day", Mr. Richard was able to identify what works with my son's personality and established practice criteria that was much more effective."
