Is it hard to play the harp? That’s usually the first question people ask. My answer? Not at all! I teach the harp in three easy steps: Speak, Read, Write .

"Speaking" music simply means learning to listen and play your harp. We learn tunes by ear to start, just like you would if you were learning a language.

Reading and Writing are what allow you to pick up your favorite piece of music and learn it on your own, just like reading a book.

Whether you want to play in a concert hall or in your living room, I will give you the knowledge and technique to help you make the harp a part of your life.

About Kathryn

Hi there! My name is Kathryn and I'm a professional singer, Celtic harpist, and educator. I love all animals (especially dogs), and baking goodies for my friends, family, and students. Over the past ten years I’ve helped hundreds of students reach their goals and fulfill their dreams of singing, p

Anne is a fabulous teacher, an amazing musician, and wonderful advisor. She teacher online just as if the lesson were in person. These lessons are a dream come true and so is Anne as a teacher. She teaches with excellence, but also at a pace that works for you. She is patient, funny, and very wise. My harp journey is a joy because of Anne! Highly recommend!!!

Wow! What an amazing experience. Anne is so incredibly approachable! I've only dabbled in the harp with a few lessons from a previous instructor, and I cannot overstate how comfortable Anne made me feel while playing for her to gauge my technique and skill level. As an adult learner - I truly felt like I was getting lessons from an old friend. Online lessons can be tricky, but Anne's attention to detail had her catching areas for me to improve technique - even over a video session. The only thing better would be if I could move coasts to play with her in person :) Had an absolute blast and will be signing up for more lessons!

As a music teacher of over 15 years I take a fun but structured approach to learning the harp. I've taught all ages and I individually work with each student to help them learn the music that they want to and reach the goals that they set for themselves. I also have a large emphasis on hand position and help my students have the very best technique so they can play their very best. We will typically start with exercises and technique and then move to music. I will then send written individual feedback after the lesson to help remind the student of what we are working on. I hope to have the chance to share my love of music with you!

"A teenage boy and a 40-year-old woman do not go about learning an instrument (or music theory) in the same way, and Alexandra knows how to tailor her lessons to each students' needs -- definitely not a one-size-fits all teacher. Cheerful and encouraging, she knows how to walk the fine line between demanding excellent work and being a control freak. Whether you or your child want to learn music theory for any instrument, or the harp in particular, you can't go wrong with Alexandra. Also, for those who have to listen to anyone practicing a new instrument, it's hard to make an ugly sound on a harp."

"When I was nursing a patients wife brought in her harp and played. I was so impressed with the soothing sound I asked her where she learned. She got me in contact with Ann and I started taking lessons. Having studied music I learned quickly. Yet I must say Ann is an excellent teacher. She is patient, encouraging and supportive. Clearly she is capable of teaching any one at any age. If you are interested in learning this most beautiful of instruments I highly recommend Ann your teacher. You will not be disappointed. You will also be very proud at what you will be able to learn in such a short time. This is also something you will have for a life time."

"I enjoyed my first harp lesson with Liudmila so much! She is a very sweet lady, and a very patient, knowledgable, and professional teacher. She taught me the correct posture and hand positions at the first lesson. I was struggeling with the hand positions first, but she didn't mind to explain them to me over and over again. She also plaid some tunes to me, and I could tell that she is an awsome harpist. I am very glad that I can learn from her. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to learn from a professional harpist."

"Anne is a fantastic teacher who brings so much warmth, patience, and skill to each lesson! She took me from a complete novice who didn't even know how to properly pluck a string to being able to impress family and friends with familiar songs. She doesn't have you go out and spend a ton on books or materials either, which I've experienced while learning other musical instruments. Anne provides very detailed assignment notes with each lesson too, which she then emails so you can have something tangible to refer to while practicing instead of having to take notes yourself or keep it all in your head somehow. Highly recommend taking lessons from one of the best!"

Online Harp Lessons

The harp is an instrument that makes a soft, angelic sound. The harp has a long history as it is considered one of the world’s first instruments. Some believe the harp’s sound is meant to mimic that of a hunter’s bow. Today, the modern version of a harp has 47 strings with seven pedals that the harpist uses to control each string’s pitch.

While some musicians have a knack for picking up instruments and mastering them, that’s not the case for most music students. If you’re interested in developing your harp playing skills, then it’s a good idea to turn to harp lessons online. Here at TakeLessons, we invite you to learn the harp online, regardless of whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced student. With some time, patience, and practice, you will be well on your way
