I am a professional pianist/keyboardist, songwriter, and recording artist. I graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Arts in Music & Technology and am pursuing my MFA as a Performer-Composer at CalArts in Valencia, CA. With my diverse background in both the technical and creative arts, I will be able to help build a foundation of musical knowledge that will allow students to explore areas from theory & performance to production and innovation, all with a musical focus. I teach students of all different ages and experience levels. My background is mainly in Carnatic (South Indian classical) music, which I have been playing on the keyboard for 17 years now, but I have been playing and performing jazz piano for the past 10 years as well. I have performed with my band, "In the Works" in the NYC area, and I also played with reggae-rock-fusion band "Light Warriors", so I have a lot of experience with live shows that I can also offer. I specialize in teaching students to read and play contemporary & jazz music using chord sheets, but more importantly, I can help you attain a deeper level of understanding of the music that most piques your interest, allowing you to tackle any challenge. My teaching style combines theory, piano, composition, and production to give students a more comprehensive understanding of music and how they can find their voice within it. My personal passion is contemporary music but I feeI that any musician can benefit from guided study, analysis, and practice in all different genres and styles of art. Making these connections is where I feel I have the most impact with my students, and I look forward to meeting and growing as musicians together!

Aashray has been teaching my son for over a year and he has learned so much. My son is very comfortable with him and Aashray is very patient with him.
Great first class! Very patient with my son.
I've been a self-taught keyboard player for about 1-1.5 years and was able to play few of my favorite songs decently well. So naturally after I signed up for his class I was curious about how this will be able to take my abilities to the next level, especially in COVID times as I originally signed up for in-person class! 4-5 months in, I can confidently say that I'm loving him as my keyboard instructor! He personally encouraged me to practice using the music that I love, while blending it with his teaching to exactly point out on how one needs to approach these things. He's been really flexible in terms of scheduling during this time and that has also allowed me to come to class when I'm at 100%. I don't know if my keyboard abilities are next level compared to when I started (it has improved), but I'm certainly enjoying this process!
