I'm Abu. I graduated from Addis Ababa University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in and from Portland Community College in Health Informatics. In college, I realized the classes I appreciated the most we're not necessarily the topics I was most interested in. Rather, it was the professors who made the classes enjoyable. These Professors are always engaging and comprehensible when teaching the materials in the classroom, and willing to go the extra mile when asking for additional help for clarification. I tried to bring this knowledge to my teaching approach, do everything I can and make learning a pleasant experience. Use lesson plans in which they usually introduce a topic in a fun and creative way, then explicitly teach the material. Afterward, I always ensure time for students to practice the material on their own. Of course, this method can be adjusted based on the subject and the student's individual needs. I have a year of tutoring experience in a Science classroom. I worked directly with any student who needed an additional assistant but also had a small focus group of 5-10 students in each of my 6 classes. These were the students who needed the most extra help so I worked with them during class to make sure they didn't fall behind. Additionally, I held tutoring sessions every day after school where students could come for any homework help. In this setting, I tutored not only in algebra but also in Geometry, Biology, and English.
About Abu B.

Unlike many other careers, I enjoy caring for others. My interest in teaching began back in 2008 while I was at work for a completely different purpose. This brief work experience I had some 8 years ago when I was back in Ethiopia, though I wasn’t even an academic professional at the time, except the DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) training that I received, had a tremendous effect on me and literally instill in me the value of teaching service and the satisfaction of giving back to the most underserved and those in need. As a matter of fact, this work experience I had some years back played a great portion in my decision-making of applying to the school teaching now, though other factors are also being put into play. During my college and graduate school experiences I had an opportunity to do an ample amount of teaching and tutoring of peers
