My students have described our lessons as being fun, intense, humorous, and thought-provoking. Lessons are always tailored to the individual student, because the lessons are about the student making progress toward their goals, not about me. I put a great deal of thought into how to approach each student individually, to help them in whatever way I can. I bring a vast amount of teaching and performing experience toward the lessons. I grew up in a small own in Ohio and took saxophone lessons from the age of 12. This allowed me to begin playing saxophone the proper way with very few negative habits, which looking back was very important in my development. I also started with good practice habits which helped tremendously. I went on to study saxophone in Ohio, France, Indiana and got a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Georgia. All of my degrees are in saxophone performance. I have taught as a full time professor in Arkansas, Pennsylvania, and Texas. I have won several competitions and so have my students.

3rd lesson done and couldn't be happier with our online teacher. Mr. Wen is informative and very professional. Recommend for anyone.
Dr. Wen was the best professor and lesson instructor I have ever had. I took lessons with him for over seven years starting in high school and throughout my entire college. He shares his expertise in music theory, techniques, and instrument mechanics. He really helped me gain confidence in my playing abilities, showed me how I should be practicing in order to get the most of each rehearsal, and taught me so much about myself as a player. His ability to instruct on every aspect of playing the instrument is something I really admire. Need help rhythmically? He will help you understand time, measurement, and notes. Need help technically? He has all the ways to practice to get that much closer to perfection and how to maintain it. Need help with scales? He will help you to truly understand the scale in order for you to play it better. Not only will he help with the "how-tos," he will explain the why. Needing help with breathing techniques or articulations? He will take you through exercises that will enhance every aspect of your playing. He sets the standards high, and helps you reach your goals. I will always recommend Dr. Wen!
Dr. Wen is an outstanding saxophone instructor, performer, and technician! I learned more from him in my first two 30 minute lessons than I had in 15 years of playing. He will teach you how to make your practice time more productive, alternate fingerings to play more in tune, techniques to make note transitions easier, how to prepare new reeds for playing.... and on and on. I had not played for a very long time. Dr Wen got me from there to where I was playing in a University Wind Ensemble, a quartet, and a community band. He also knew exactly where my saxophone needed to be adjusted to make it play better. Dr Wen was my instructor for approximately 7 years. I learned a tremendous amount from him. You can’t do any better than Dr Andy Wen. He’s outstanding!
