Hello and welcome! My name is Britta and I am a piano and guitar teacher. I teach online as well as in-studio in Round Lake Beach, IL. I have been playing the piano since before I can remember. I took lessons from an excellent teacher from age 5 to 18. During that time, I performed in one formal recital every year, as well as three other informal recitals with my peers. I also took opportunities to play at my school and church and in a variety of ensembles over the years. When I was 18, I accomplished a big goal of mine: Performing George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, piano solo version. I had three performances. That year I also prepared a senior recital, in which I had my third Rhapsody in Blue performance. The rest of the repertoire was by Claude Debussy, who is another top favorite of mine. In addition to playing piano, I played percussion in the school band from age 10 to 18. I also picked up guitar at age 13, and mandolin at age 15. I still love to practice my instruments, and I still love to play for other people. For a while, I thought that was the only role music would play in my life. I was pursuing a career in education. At first, I thought I would teach ESL. Then I decided to try assistant teaching a 1st grade classroom. I spread my teaching wings a bit, but I still hadn’t found the right fit. Then, one summer, I found a free, gorgeous, 80-year-old baby grand piano. As the lovely piano settled in by the front window, it dawned on me how perfect it would be to teach piano lessons. I transitioned into teaching piano lessons the next year. I've been teaching piano lessons for almost 6 years now. About 4 years ago I began teaching guitar as well. It has been an absolute joy.

Britta is a patient, kind and fun piano teacher! I played piano as a kid but have been wanting to re-learn as an adult, and Britta has been the perfect teacher to help me make progress on my goals. She has a great set-up for either virtual or in-person lessons - mine have been great via video! I highly recommend Britta for piano learners of any age.
We have had Ms. Britta teaching our four boys since January 2018 and they have flourished in their musical knowledge and abilities! They were 4, 5, 5, and 7 years old when they began and they knew nothing about how to read/play music. Britta has been patient, engaging, and encouraging with them and they have learned so much! We love hearing them learn and play. Furthermore, they genuinely look forward to their lessons each week - that's pretty amazing and speaks to Britta's ability to make learning fun and keep her students engaged while learning online. We highly recommend Britta if you are looking for a piano instructor.
My two children have been instructed by Britta for the past few years. She is amazing, patient and kind. Britta is a very flexible teacher worked on guitar, piano and percussion with my children, even though percussion was a little outside of her comfort zone. My children agree that Ms. Britta is "nice", "explains things well" and "makes sure you get to work on things that are interesting to you". That is high praise from two teenagers! As a parent, I appreciate her flexibility in teaching venues offering both on-line and in person instruction. My kids progessed in their musical knowledge and abilities even though they did not always find time to put in the practice outside of lessons.
