Levels taught:Elementary, Middle School, High School, College
After over 26 years as a certified public school teacher, I retired from the New Jersey Educational System. In my retirement, I discovered I absolutely love tutoring one-on-one. My philosophy is “Find the challenges a student is facing, then find the way through them.” Besides knowing the subject matter, I really know how to teach. Each student is an individual, with different learning styles. My teaching style is not to just explain a concept, but to lead the student to be able to explain the concept in their own words. My goal is to guide you to true understanding rather than merely remembering. This is our path to success. With my patience and guidance your grades will naturally improve. I am especially patient with special needs students. My nickname in college was "Calculus Dave”, given to me by the classmates I was providing impromptu tutoring. After receiving my B.A. in Biology from Temple University, I continued with graduate studies in Neurobiology at Cornell University. I received my New Jersey teacher certifications in Elementary Education, K-8 and Comprehensive Science, K-12 from Rowan University College of Education I have taught middle school science & high school Biology, Chemistry (including AP Chemistry), and Physics. As well as writing curriculum for science classes, I created and wrote curriculum for Computer courses in Middle school, which I taught for many years. I have also been a math tutor since 1996. I also received a Level 2 kayaking certification from the ACA. After providing free introductory and intermediate kayaking lessons through my kayaking clubs, several people came up to me and asked me if my profession was teaching. When I replied, "Yes, why?", they responded with "It shows". I couldn't receive a better compliment. I am here for you. Let’s find those challenges and overcome them. Besides kayaking, my personal interests include building computers and writing software, traveling, and astrophotography.
