The bassist of a band is, in my opinion, the unsung hero of most ensembles. That’s why I try to instill in every bass student a sense of who they are in the ensemble and the importance of their role. I would say that I teach bass guitar from the perspective of an upright bassist, that is I focus on getting the student to learn the correct pitch names (rather than fret numbers) of the positions they play in. I think that is one of the secrets to becoming a versatile bassist in any genre of music.
About David L.

My name is David and I'm a professional musician in the greater Cincinnati area. I attended the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. I teach guitar, piano, bass guitar and even upright bass. If it's a tutor you are looking for I can also teach music theory and appreciation. I have a knack for teaching young people, probably because I was young when I started my musical journey. I've been very successful at inspiring a student's love of music and instilling the patience required to take on the challenge of playing an instrument. The first thing I like to do is get to know you, the music you enjoy and your goals. In a way, I like to begin by letting the student lead. In addition to learning from you, I intend to present you with new information, to try and broaden your musical tastes and teach you how to be an active listener.

David is a wonderful instructor, fun and really enjoyable, and excellent professional. Thank you so much, David. Andre really enjoys the lesson.

Piano lessons with David are really enjoyable. I chose him because of all the reviews that mentioned how patient and encouraging he is, and they were absolutely right. I'm an adult beginner and I was afraid to start lessons for a while because I can be an embarrassingly slow learner, but now I'm looking forward to them. Another thing that I think makes him a great teacher is how he provides specific feedback. Highly recommend.

I searched for an excellent upright bass teacher for a good while. Then I found David Lloyd. David is patient, humorous, friendly, knowledgeable and very professional. He carefully taught me all the necessary groundwork to enable me to continue on my own for a while. In a few months I will, without question, continue my studies with David. I would, without hesitation, recommend David to anyone interested in seriously studying the Upright Bass.
