This is not a machine embroidery class. Get ready to move beyond the basic cross stitch (by hand). Let me coach you on specialty stitches such as satin, queen, eyelets, Rhodes, French knots and more. Let me repeat, this will not be a machine embroidery class, every stitch will be made by hand! I've been cross stitching since 1983 and teaching it for over 10 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll learn how to organize your material for easier sewing, master basic stitches, and as time goes on you'll be able to tackle complicated stitches and designs. I specialize in counted cross stitch, but also have experience with redwork, drawnwork, Bargello, pulled thread, hardanger, and canvaswork. Typically, I use The Cross Stitcher's Bible by Jane Greenoff but can recommend other helpful resources. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you! Group pricing available, please contact customer service for more details on how to set up group lessons.
About Dawn Z.

High school librarian by day, crafter for life. I'm a certified BurdaStyle teacher, award winning embroider, quilter and knitter. I advise a high school sewing club as well as volunteer with Days for Girls and church prayer shawl ministry. Please note, during the summers my schedule is more flexible when school is not in session. Students will find I'm passionate about all needle arts and want to pass that along to all generations and skill levels. Learning to sew, knit or hand embroider can be intimidating, but with the right support can become a lifelong hobby that provides joy to your life. Let me show you how to get started. I look forward to helping you exercise your creative side.

Dawn is a superb teacher! I was an educator or 30 years and it is not often I find someone who can make something so new and challenging seem so easy and fun. I am so pleased to see that this old art form is being kept alive!

My 11 year old daughter benefitted immensely from Dawn's instruction on quilting. Dawn went the extra mile with carefully laid out instructions, her patience, and enthusiasm. The only reason we've paused for the moment is my daughter's end of year schedule has gotten a bit busy with sports. She has absolutely loved quilting lessons with Dawn.

Dawn is a wonderful instructor. She is very knowledgeable. Patient and willing to answer my questions. I had concerns about my ability to learn sewing, but Dawn has helped my confidence greatly. I plan to continue my sewing journey with Dawn:)
