Levels taught:
Beginner, IntermediateHaving learned from several teachers over the course of my training, I've been fortunate to learn Tabla in a diverse manner. Although growing up in USA, I visited India every two or three years for intensive training. These experiences have helped me gain and retain the traditional aspects of the art. At the same time, my training in USA has given me a western perspective, which has created a great blend of traditional and modern. I've taught in a variety of settings from music schools to religious institutions to community centers. I am comfortable teaching private lessons as well group classes. Apart from Tabla, I studied and performed western classical music, primarily the drum set. As a member of my school band, I was exposed to a variety of percussion instruments over the years. Along with my daily practice, I continue learning from my Guru (teacher) on a regular basis. I maintain my independent study, which consists of listening, researching, and collaborating with other musicians. Music is a lifelong journey, where we're always learning. I enjoy teaching as a way to help people along this journey. Ultimately, teaching others makes me a better student, which is what I always consider myself first and foremost.
