My lessons revolve around drum set and concert snare drum technique and musicianship. I aim to make sure that my students have a firm grasp of the fundamentals of percussion (rudiments, sight-reading, etc.), while simultaneously exposing them to the vast world of rhythmic styles and grooves. These span from classical snare repertoire to jazz, funk, rock, soul, and Latin styles. I design my curriculum around each student's individual needs, in order that our lessons may serve a practical purpose onstage.
About Dominic V.

I am a multi-genre drummer/percussionist who is currently a student at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA. Trained in classical piano from the age of 6, I took up the drums at age 11, with an emphasis on jazz drumming. Since then, I have performed at venues such as the DC Jazz Festival, Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, Blues Alley, and the National Mall, as well as performing alongside artists such as Brian Lynch, Terell Stafford, and Carmen Bradford. Additionally, I was selected to the 2019 and 2020 Maryland All-State Jazz Bands, and played with a professional wedding & party band for 2 years. I have plenty of teaching experience; in addition to teaching privately, I have also served as faculty at a summer jazz camp. Rather than forcing pupils to adhere to a rigid curriculum, I assess each student's needs and goals at our first lesson, and aim to help them achieve these goals. At the same time, I progressively introduce my students to the fundamentals and techniques needed to become a proficient percussionist, such as grip, arm motion, rudiments, rolls, and reading music. With each of my students, I expose to them all of the various styles of music, from classical to jazz, from funk to fusion. My hope is that they will come away captivated by a new concept, and become a better musician because of it.
