My name is EJ Hughes I am a saxophonist and woodwind performer / instructor with a background in music that began at age 10 with the recorder. I am now 50 and have travelled extensively performing in many genres with a passion and deep rooted training in Jazz, Classical, and Contemporary music. My last performing experiences were with the Carollton Jazz Orchestra in Georgia, USA and two steady weekly performances with Canelita Sabrosa, a latin jazz/ funk ensemble in Atlanta. I also performed weekly in a jazz trio performing classic jazz reperertoire. In the past I was employed by various lesson centers and helped Georgia State University’s RYJO high school jazz program when returning to Atlanta from years of work on cruise ships and a year of visiting South East Asia and Singapore. In the past I was the instructor of jazz saxophone for Emory University and also taught Advanced Improvisation and Jazz applied saxophone for Georgia State University before returning to my hometown in New Hampshire filling the band director and general music instructor position under a mentorship alternative teaching certification track. I received classical instruction on clarinet and flute in my undergraduate work at Valdosta State University where I received my bachelors degree in music performance. I returned to Atlanta to finish a masters degree in Jazz Pedagogy in 2001-2003 as a graduate assistant and was responsible for jazz combo direction as well as instruction of Advanced Improvisation under the guidance of Dr. Gordon Vernick, head of Jazz Studies. I have taught, performed, and recorded while residing in New York, Georgia, Florida, New Hampshire and Singapore, in addition to performing extensive cruise ship work, traveling to over 20 countries. In 2018 I performed with Jennifer Holiday of the original broadway cast of Dream Girls and have performed and recorded with Grammy winning artists while recording as a leader on the Blue Canoe record label with his digital releases: “Something to Say,” and “Emotional Vampire” available through Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon.
