Have you ever wondered what makes your favorite music "work"? Are you interested in getting prepared for college music programs? Then studying music theory is for you! I provide students with an intuitive but thorough grounding in traditional Western music theory, my area of expertise, while encouraging students to explore the ways in which practitioners think and write about their musical experiences in other genres and cultural settings.
About Emily C.

Hello, I'm Emily, and I'd love to help you on your musical journey! I have years of experience teaching woodwind and piano lessons to students of all ages and backgrounds, from children beginning band programs and adults picking up a new hobby to serious students working to embark on a career as music performers and educators themselves. I also enjoy working with children and adults with special needs, including students on the autism spectrum. I currently perform in the clarinet sections of the Evansville Philharmonic, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, and the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra. I have also performed with the Akron Symphony Orchestra, the Grammy Award-winning Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and several others. I serve as the Artistic Director of Kamratōn, a chamber ensemble dedicated to women-created and women-curated new music. I’ve played with jazz-fusion ensemble the Afro-Yaqui Music Collective at venues in Pittsburgh and New York City, and I enjoy performing as an improvisor. I’ve also worked as a church pianist, and enjoy teaching all genres of piano performance. Currently, I lead the bands and ukulele ensemble at St. Vincent in Bedford, IN. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have, and I look forward to meeting you!
