Jennifer, American Mezzo Soprano, has been described by critics as “having vocal power, and something to spare,” her performances as “affecting and eloquent,” and “she is proof that it is not only important to have a powerful voice, but that it is also needed to have a good amount of acting talent.” I grew up performing musical theater, choral music and Christian contemporary. I have toured with great accompanists, performed opera, musical theater, recitals and concerts with orchestra. I have the unique ability to sing a variety of roles and embody many diverse characters. I also adjudicate for many competitions such as the MET National Council auditions and give master classes nationally. I enjoy teaching healthy technique and expressive artistry to a full private studio of gifted singers in classical, musical theater, and commercial genres. I have worked with the Vanderbilt Voice Center in Tennessee, helping singers rehabilitate their voices and mentor a group of talented singing teachers. Many of my students are singing, directing, and teaching throughout the country. I am also interested in costume design, and work in this capacity has included operas ranging from Die Klüge to Trouble in Tahiti to The Tender Land. Directing credits include Gallantry and A Hand of Bridge with companies such as Opera Nouveau Nashville. I have sung background vocals in Christian contemporary, gospel, and worship genres. I am an avid reader, particularly dealing with vocal pedagogy and the science of the voice.

Dr. Coleman was recommended to us by an experienced Vanderbilt Otolaryngologist when my son was a freshman in high school and just discovering Classical Voice. She introduced him to the genre and taught him the importance of proper vocal technique from his first lessons with her. Dr. Coleman worked with him throughout high school and developed him into an award-winning vocalist who is now studying Classical Vocal Performance at Northwestern University in Chicago on a music performance scholarship. Dr. Coleman prepared our son well for college auditions and consulted with us as we sorted through multiple scholarship offers and opportunities. Our son continues to want to consult and study with her on his summer breaks and trusts her completely. She combines fantastic teaching with the assurance that young singers will not damage their voices or create bad vocal habits. We now have 3 additional children taking lessons with Dr. Coleman. She continues to provide excellent training while helping them prepare for musical theater and pop performances. She has been able to meet each student where they are vocally (whether an experienced or new singer), find out their interests and abilities, and grow them into a confident and beautiful singer. She has helped multiple of my children overcome performance stage fright. I cannot recommend Dr. Coleman enough. We are very grateful for all of her excellent teaching over the years!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! A GOD SEND and answer to prayer!!!! Dr. Coleman has vocally trained my children!!! They LOVE her!!! My daughter is an aspiring singer-song writer. Due to illness she LOST HER VOICE! My daughter was devastated!!! Dr. Coleman RESTORED her voice in less than a month!!! She walked her through new vocal training techniques and even took the time to write her pediatrician explaining her concerns and recommendations!! She has helped my sons self esteem in singing and strengthened is ear for choir! She really is THE BEST! I highly recommend her for children and adults!!!! Jesus loves that woman! And so do I!!!!
The best of the best!!! Dr. Coleman is a wealth of excellent information about all things singing!!! She teaches to your learning style! She has worked extensively with doctors at Vanderbilt and knows how to teach healthy technique so you can find your own voice!!! Too many teachers want singers to imitate and damage voices. She undid years of poor technique and damage in my voice. She has helped me to have a career in teaching and singing! She is amazing, I am so thankful to know her, she is life changing for singers!
