Hello, my name is Kevin! See below for examples of my work. I am a practiced painter and artist though I am trained traditionally as an architect, and have a Masters of Architecture from the University of Arizona. My Bachelor degree is in Communication Design from Washington University. Since graduation in 2010 I have ventured into teaching both English and Art as it is what I enjoy most. I have been painting throughout my life, being exposed early on to great museums in New York City and Paris through the work of my family. I am trained in traditional methods and have a solid foundation of drawing, drafting, and color theory that I am able to share with students. Drawing takes time, and is the foundation for all art. By building a solid foundation it will lead to other avenues of art including sculpture, painting, and architecture. I believe in always drawing or painting a subject you love or are excited about, whether it's dogs, landscapes, portraits, or fruit! Too often schools push model drawing or tedious drills to students instead of creating a unique curriculum based on individual interests. Drawing and painting from life is the best practice, and I encourage drawing outdoors with all the distractions and colors of changing light throughout the day. However using photographic references or setting up still-life drawing at home is also a great way to work if the weather is not congenial. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to send me a message. I am excited to both share my knowledge and work together to learn more about the ever expanding field of art.
