I am a professional violist and student living in New York City. I am currently finishing my undergraduate studies at the Juilliard School as a student of Hsin-Yun Huang and Misha Amory, and am continuing as a graduate student next year as a student of Misha Amory and Cynthia Phelps. I have been teaching for almost eight years now, and have experience with violinists and violists but can specifically be helpful to those switching from one to the other! When I switched to the viola later in life, I learned new techniques and habits to help produce the rich, beautiful sound of the viola that is so similar to the human voice. In fact, It was this aspect that initially drew me to the instrument. As a teacher, my focus begins with building a strong foundation that is constantly improved upon over time, as opposed to learning lots of material quickly. Every student is different, so I intentionally try to avoid giving blanket advice to multiple students. I firmly believe that the experience of learning viola takes unique aspects from one's own life in order to inform their artistic choices. *Fully vaccinated and willing to teach in person or online.
