Learn to improvise and use your ears from a gigging musician with 15+ years experience
I've worked with students from aged 5 to 85 and understand that every student has their own unique way of learning. I like to mold each lesson to their needs and interests while also providing the regimen I believe is necessary to their musical growth. I'm a gigging musician in Los Angeles and received my undergraduate degree from the College-Conservatory of Music and my masters from the Eastman School of Music, both in jazz piano performance.
About Max G.

I want to help you become more confident using your ears, improvising, and playing the repertoire that inspires you! I am always trying to hone my skills as a teacher by identifying the best ways each student learns and adapting my teaching methods to fit them. I grew up jamming with my family and knew right away that I wanted to be a musician just like my dad. I was classically trained and competed regularly in piano competitions throughout the Midwest before attending the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati as a jazz piano major. Right after graduation, I moved to New York to earn my Masters of Music in jazz piano performance at the Eastman School of Music.

If you're looking for a teacher, you caught a break here. The search is over. Max is your guy. He's a phe-nom-on-al teacher - he's super smart (but not in an irritating way), and he really seems to know how to teach the student what they're ready to learn, as opposed to just telling them what he knows. He has an awesome sense for how the student learns - and when they're ready for more. (He let me jump around from topic to topic and idea to idea, which is how I learn.) His approach to the hard stuff is relaxed and easy-going. He makes you work for it, without SEEMING like you're working for it. I returned to basic theory much later in life, and Max made it SO easy. I'm now playing the old standards by ear, and arranging as I play, and - bonus! - understanding what I'm doing. That's because of Max. He's THAT good! Thank you, Max! And, you - new person looking for a teacher...you found him!

Broadcast Music Inc. was founded in 1939 by forward-thinkers who wanted to represent songwriters in emerging genres, like jazz, blues and country, and protect the public performances of their music. Operating on a non-profit-making basis, BMI is now the largest music rights organization in the U.S. and is still nurturing new talent and new music.
