While other instructors teach multiple instruments, my specialized knowledge of saxophone can get you farther, faster. I help students make quick and efficient progress in developing a strong sound concept, learning saxophone-specific techniques, making appropriate repertoire choices, setting smart goals, and getting access to opportunities outside of lessons. As a music educator, I've worked with over 2,500 students in one-on-one lessons, educational workshops, and outreach concerts. I've learned how to help students of all backgrounds achieve their goals and find joy in music. My lessons focus on developing technique, practice strategies, a good sound, aural skills, music theory knowledge, and stylistic fluency. My private students have placed into selective programs including the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble at The Hartt School, the Connecticut Music Educators Association All-State Band, and Interlochen Arts Camp. I teach saxophone at Music and Arts East Hartford and have taught at Manchester Community College, South Windsor High School, and Camp Encore / Coda. I believe students of all ages can find enjoyment and success in music. You'll benefit from my years of experience as a professional performing musician. From 2012-2016 I toured with the Asylum Quartet, an award-winning ensemble acclaimed for virtuosity, creativity, and innovation. I am an Arts Provider for Hartford Performs with the Foundry Quartet and an active freelance performer. I have appeared with the Juilliard Orchestra, the U.S. Coast Guard Band, and International Opera Theater, and have performed throughout the US as well as Italy and Ukraine. I hold a Master's in Music from The Hartt School and a Bachelor of Music summa cum laude from Arizona State University (ASU). Though I specialize in saxophone, I also love teaching beginning and intermediate piano. LESSON MATERIALS Saxophone students must have an instrument in good repair and required accessories (reeds, mouthpiece, etc.). Piano students must have access to a tuned piano or an electric keyboard with touch-sensitive, weighted keys. I am happy to recommend instrument and accessory brands; please check with me before a major purchase. Quality, working equipment is critical to students’ success. I periodically request that students purchase books and other lesson materials. If you are planning to buy a saxophone, piano/keyboard, or mouthpiece, please consult with me first. Having good-quality instrument/accessories will help you achieve your success. There are a number of cheap products that are easy to find and purchase, but they are often of poor quality. I can recommend options for your first purchase that may be more expensive, but will help you succeed in the long term. ONLINE LESSONS Please make sure you have high-speed internet to support video calls. Generally 100mpbs is adequate when paired with a modern router/modem. Most internet service providers offer this speed as a second-tier option, so you may need to upgrade. I also strongly recommend purchasing the following tech accessories for the best online lesson experience. You can invest in these items for a total of under $100, and they will serve you in all virtual learning, meetings, etc. 1. External USB Microphone with Headphone Output 2. Over-Ear Wired Headphones 3. External USB Webcam IN-HOME LESSONS For in-home lessons, please set aside a quiet, clean, well-lit space. The space must be free from distractions by pets, family members, friends, TV, phones, etc. Any doors to the lesson space should be open or transparent and for students under 18, an adult must be at home throughout the lesson.

Thoroughly enjoyed the lesson with Max.
awesome instructor saw great results in first lesson!
I've played the sax intermittently over the years. Now that my kids are older, I decided to take lessons. I'm so thankful for finding Max. He builds on my strengths and helps me fill in the gaps in my playing. I'm having fun and becoming a better player. I notice an improvement every lesson.
