As a professional violist, I have studied and travelled in both the United States and Europe to hone my craft. My approach to teaching the violin and viola is simple: I believe strongly in the need for individualizing the content, trajectory, and goals as they best fit the student. I earned my BM in Music Education and Performance summa cum laude from Ithaca College in 2013, and received my MM in Music Performance at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2015. At Ithaca College I went through some of the most rigorous and renowned teacher training in New York State and the US, specializing in violin and viola instruction. In Europe, I have travelled to perform on stages in numerous countries, working with orchestras, chamber musicians, and soloists. Some of my teachers are amongst the most respected pedagogues in the field, including Michelle LaCourse and Jane Rogers. My approach to music making is holistic, and incorporates aspects of psychosomatic disciplines, such as the Alexander Technique, Svaroopa yoga, and the ELDOA Method. This has helped me to better realize my potential as a musician, and helps my students to feel more empowered in their own work. I hope you find lessons to be both a respite from the day, and an opportunity to enrich your musicianship!

Thank for getting me back into playing Max!! After sometime off, I really didn’t think I would ever enjoy learning to play the violin again, but your clear instructions make me feel like I am working towards something that actually pays off! I’ve already seen a big improvement in my playing and am enjoying the learning process so much. Looking forward to learning Book 4!!
Max is a thoughtful and insightful teacher and musician who will work with students to make holistic ways to improve musicianship and approaches to music.
