Learn to play the flute with expert lessons from an experienced instructor
I tailor my teaching approach to each individual student, catering to their learning style and taking their individual goals into account. I believe it is most effective to be encouraging and supportive, highlighting strong areas and working with the student to assess problem areas and discover ways to correct them. We will develop foundational skills with scales and etudes, bring out musicality and performance energy with solo work and also work on music the student may need to learn for school, band etc.
About Mimi J.

Mimi Johnson went to North Hardin High School and had the privilege to perform in many prestigious conferences with the Wind Symphony, under the direction of Mr. Charles Campbell. The performances include BOA National Concert Band Festival 2004, Midwest Clinic 2005, and Carnegie Hall 2006. After graduating in 2006, she pursued her love for music and was accepted into the School of Music at the University of Louisville. Mimi received her Bachelors in Music Performance and studied under the principle flutist of the Louisville Orchestra, Kathy Karr. While pursuing her degree at U of L, Mimi auditioned into Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra and was dedicated to those ensembles for four years. Mimi performed in Carnegie Hall three more times during her college career and also performed at the International WASBE conference in Killarney, Ireland and the CODA Conference in Kennesaw, Georgia. Mimi was one of the three selected for the School of Music’s Concerto Competition in 2009 and performed with the Symphony Orchestra in March 2010. Mrs. Johnson has been teaching flute players of all ages in the state of Kentucky since 2006. She became the flute instructor at Little Flock’s Academy of Arts in 2009 and expanded her studio to Miles Ahead in 2011, Louisville Music Company in 2014, and Gittli Music in 2015. Mimi also taught flute master classes and sectionals in middle schools and high schools that spanned across Oldham, Jefferson, Shelby, Spencer, Bullitt, and Hardin County. In 2016, she moved back to her hometown in Hardin County to be closer to family. Mimi then started teaching lessons in her private studio and sectionals in the surrounding area. Mrs. Johnson currently works with Hardin County band programs teaching private lessons, sectionals, and chamber ensembles. She is happily married to her high school sweetheart and has four children. Mimi is a certified band nerd who loves food, investing in memories, and spending time with her family and close friends!
