Every lesson is for YOU. The time we spend together is time for you to explore your voice, your goals, and desires within music. I specialize in beginner/intermediate singers looking to expand their voice, repertoire, and love of singing. No lesson will be the same, and every lesson will be a shared experience in which we learn how your voice works, and how it feels. Lessons include, but are not limited too, repertoire exploration, music theory, range expansion, vocal pedagogy/vocal anatomy, performance preparation, character coaching .....and much more. *GROUP SINGING LESSONS ( for individuals of 3 or 4) 60MINUTES for $100
About Shelley M.

I'm a professional singer/teacher residing in New York City with degrees from Indiana State University School of Music, and New York University with a specialization in Classical Art Song, Musical Theatre Repertoire, and Vocal Pedagogy. Every lesson is about YOU. So each week we will take a look at your goals for the lesson, whether you are preparing for college auditions, school talents shows, a desire to work with music theory, or piano skills, this is your opportunity to explore. Everything is possible. As a professional singer myself, I am constantly auditioning on broadway, off-broadway, and for smaller local and regional theater opportunities. I believe that as a teacher I have to continue to be in the field and learning as the industry continues to change. I have to be aware of the opportunities in this business. I have been hired by professional opera and musical theatre companies, in additional to large choral works as a soloist, and have a private studio in Washington Heights. Prior to NYC I taught middle school choir for 200+ students, of which I received teacher of the year in 2012. I also still hold a valid teaching license in the state of Indiana. ONLINE LESSONS: Due to the current nature of our society and the influence of CoVid-19 my studio is only currently teaching lessons online until further notice. STUDIO CANCELLATION POLICY: Because of the nature of singing, and how important consistency is, having lessons regularly is incredibly important. Additionally, due to the nature of lesson times being reserved in my schedule, it is always courtesy to keep scheduled lessons as much as possible. - Planned absences (such as vacations, religious events, holidays, school functions, etc) are eligible for rescheduling or cancellation if given at least two weeks notice in writing (text or email communication) - Unforeseen events (emergencies, sudden illness, etc) totally happen. In the case of such an event, please contact me as soon as possible, preferably within 24 hours so I can possibly give that time to another student. Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours will not be rescheduled and will be marked as "missed" with a charge.

Teacher's Studio

I have been taking lessons from Shelley for 6 months and I have noticed a marked improvement in my voice. She has helped me increase my vocal range and quality, and I have learned about anatomy, breath control, phrasing and so much more. Shelley is a patient, knowledgeable and encouraging teacher. I look forward to every lesson with Shelley and I plan continuing lessons .

I have absolutely loved working with Shelley over the past 2 years. I started my vocal journey with Shelley at the beginning of the Pandemic. I remenber being extremely nervous on our first lesson but she immediately made me feel comfortable with her positive and supportive energy! I really appreciate the guidance and dedication she puts into each of her students. As a dancer, Shelley uses dance terminology to try and help me understand what she wants me to do with my voice which has been extremely helpful. I would highly recommend Shelley to anyone!!

As an adult taking vocal lessons for the first time, I was not sure what to expect from an instructor, from myself, or from the type of experience it would be overall. Shelley was so easy to work with, and quickly put my nerves at ease by working to understand my goals, instilling confidence, and by helping me focus on my style of singing (not just the style of singers i like), and by using music that I was interested in. Highly Recommend!
