I teach online or in-person piano lessons from my home studio on my beautiful Steinway baby grand piano.

A typical lesson with me will look something like this:

-The student plays what they have practiced, and we work on any difficult areas and techniques for playing better.

-I introduce new lesson material, asking questions to make sure my student understands.

-We work on music theory, sight reading, good posture, and helpful practice techniques.

-I expect my students to practice every day, just as I do. It is the only way to become proficient.

- - - - - - - - - -

For online lessons, you may use the online platform provided by TakeLessons, or we can use Zoom. Most of my students are using Zoom.

You will need to order lesson books before your first lesson. After you sign up, we will discuss which books to order. I usually use Alfred's Basic Piano Library lesson and theory books as a starting point for lessons.

You will also need to set up your computer, tablet, ...

Get ready for a truly rich and rewarding experience. Maria studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Viktor Merzhanov. She is a 4th-generation pupil of Franz Liszt and 6th-generation of Beethoven. She was one of the fortunate few (Garrick Ohlsson among them) to study with Roberto Eyzaguirre, who was a student and friend of Claudio Arrau, one of the 20th-century's greatest pianists. Arrau studied with Martin Krause, who was one of Franz Liszt's final pupils. Liszt was taught by Carl Czerny. And Beethoven was Czerny's teacher. Through this great lineage, learn an incredible technique that will enable you to play the music of your dreams!

I am gaining a lot from my lessons with Maria. She is helping me to play more musically, to really listen and feel the music. She is also helping me to learn technically how to achieve the musical expression I desire.

I have enjoyed my lessons from Maria immensely. After just a few lessons I have noticed significant improvements in my overall technique and comfort while playing. Her feedback during lessons has been amazing, not just shallow compliments but solid criticism that most teachers would avoid.

Maria is the best all-around music teacher I've ever head. She combines deep musicality, technical precision, rigor, and warmth. In just a handful of lessons, she's helped me find a level of ease and expression that I've never experienced with any other teacher.

As a music teacher of over 15 years I take a fun but structured approach to learning the piano. I've taught all ages and I individually work with each student to help them learn the music that they want to and reach the goals that they set for themselves. I work with each student to help mold their learning experience specifically to them. We will typically start with exercises and music theory and then move to music, but am willing to adapt to what each student is wanting and needing. I will send written individual feedback after the lesson to help remind the student of what we are working on. I hope to have the chance to share my love of music with you!

Absolutely delightful. Jill is bubbling with energy and encouragement. She is a wonderful person and teacher to learn the harp from, as she is encouraging to her students and meets them where they're at. Her keen eye is able to see where improvements in technique can be made, and makes it possible to make those improvements.

Forever would recommend.

Best in home teaching experience my daughter ever has had. Can't believe how well she is getting and in such a short amount of time as we just started taking here to Uma a few months ago. At 13 she is learning faster than I ever could. This is no lazy teacher. Homeschooling my child and Uma comes one a week to teach her how to play the piano. She is a very nice woman, with a gift, I would recommend Uma to anyone who want's to learn how to play the piano, Thank you Uma.

I started taking online piano lessons with Uma a few months ago. This is my first experience to have lessons via Skype, and it works great, it saves a lot of time and makes learning much more convenient. I enjoy learning with Uma :) She has found a personal approach to me, and keeps me motivated and interested throughout the learning. Uma is a great professional teacher, and my progress is obvious! I feel confident and safe with her knowing she will lead me to success)) The prices are fair, and I enjoy the Takelessons in general, as everything is fast, mobile and easy. How to Read Sheet Music for Piano | The Mental Flip Strategy

As a beginner, learning how to read sheet music for piano is one of the first things you'll work on with your teacher. Read on as Tucson, AZ tutor Blake C. shares his strategy for understanding the relationships between the notes on the page: One of the most difficult things about learning how to read sheet music for the piano, as opposed to most other instruments, is that there is not just a single melody to be played.
