Greetings!

I have over 30 years of performance and teaching experience. Many of my students have gone on to study at the college and university level, as well as have successful careers in music themselves including working in Nashville, New York, LA, and recording and touring.

I teach beginners to advanced levels and take a very flexible approach depending on the needs and interests of the student. Whether you're just starting out and/or maybe just wanna learn how to play some of your favorite songs, or would like to take your playing to the next level with better rhythm and solo improvisation skills, or would like to achieve mastery of your instrument and virtuosity, I'm sure I can help you. Let's give it a shot! Hope to hear from you soon!

About Scott

Hey there! I've been playing and teaching full time professionally since 1989. But actually, I started guitar when I was 13 back in 1976. Yep... that's right... it was the mid 70's and the music was groovin and rockin and rollin hard!! Great time for a young guitarist to be influenced by some of t

* songs you actually want to play
* how to read music and guitar tablature

About Justin

Like most guitarists, I had always wanted to play the guitar as a little kid. Luckily, my parents finally caved to the request (ok ok, incessant begging) and I began my guitar journey at the age of 11. After now 20 years of playing and 12 years of teaching, I am excited to share my experience and th

Justin is teaching me music just not how to play the ukulele. Really appreciate his individual approach which incorporates my learning style. When needed, Justin picks up when I need a change of strategy. I am a very very beginner and have learned so much so far.

I "shopped around" for a great teacher on this site.

For many new lesson takers, not only do you have no clue about your instrument, you aren't even sure what makes a great teacher!

So here are some things to look out for in a first lesson:

Your teacher should be personable and interested in your musical experience and taste. Ask them what they like! You might hear something you want to learn.

If you mention some level of experience, they will ask you to play something you either know or have been working on. This is important!

Then, preferably, they will ask why you have chosen your instrument and what you want to be able to do with it (i.e. do you want to play in a band, or just play your favorite songs for your family gatherings).

All of this allows you to relax and not worry too much about performing too much during your first lesson.

More importantly, it gives the instructor a clear path on how to work with YOU. The more they know about your current level, the better your experience and learning progress will be.

For absolute beginners, I would hope that they have a simple melody for you to learn right then and there by watching and playing with them.

Well, Justin knocked it out of the park! And then some.

He showed that he is willing to customize teaching to your style, as well.

I learn by ear, so he knew how to use that as an advantage for learning the fretboard and notes. Instead of giving me a paper with chords on it, he challenged me to use my knowledge and play around more thoughtfully to figure out what the names are for notes and chords I'm already playing.

Please, don't hesitate to work with Justin. The price is beyond fair! Especially since other teachers in the same price ranges are between 2-4 stars.

Thanks, Justin!

Neguine teaches piano to my two children, ages 8 and 6, and she’s been wonderful. She comes to our house and immediately the house is a calm friendly place to learn music. She’s patient with my kids who love piano but are still little, and she has a good sense of humor when they want to try something a little quirky. They also have been making great strides with sightreading, and their eagerness to learn more has only increased. Neguine also does not rush the kids: If a child needs to repeat part of a lesson for another week as she is good about making sure kids reinforce what they’re learning, which is something I appreciate, and my kids have learned to appreciate that too. I highly recommend her!

I'm re-learning the piano with David and he has changed my relationship to music for the better. After only a few lessons with David I've gotten a greater understanding of music theory than I had in my few years of early piano training. He is patient and flexible with his style of teaching. If it's taking me awhile to understand a concept he's good at explaining it more clearly. I definitely recommend him for learning the piano!
Christian J.
David is a highly skilled multi-instrumentalist and producer. I was introduced when he recorded an EP for my band and since then, we've spent many an evening talking about performing, recording, teaching and making music. He is kind, patient and extremely knowledgable about his craft. I always learn something new, interesting and immediately applicable to my playing when I work with him. I've had the privilege of sharing the stage with some of his students and they have always been exceptionally professional and prepared. I highly recommend David for lessons in whatever discipline you request - the crossover knowledge from all of his experiences will be invaluable to you.

The lessons were really well structured and I felt I was on my way to achieve my goals from the first one.

Ben broke everything down into manageable chunks and built upon each lesson at the level that was right for me. He has a great teaching style and always makes you feel comfortable to ask as many questions as you need to.

I feel I have learnt so much, not only for my flamenco playing, but knowledge and skills that I can use across the board with guitar. With Ben's help I was also able to learn how to play one of my favourite songs!

Ben is patient and a likeable instructor. He will challenge you but does so in a way that makes you want to demonstrate to him as well as yourself that you are learning and progressing. I feel good about my progress so far!
Malcolm
Ben's a great and knowledgeable teacher, always willing to answer whatever questions I have. I'm new to flamenco but have played other styles of guitar, and the lessons are really well-tailored for my experience level.

How to Simplify Your Live Guitar Rig for Performances

Playing the guitar is such a fantastic experience. It’s so relieving to be on stage or in your designated practice space and just wail on your instrument. However, one of the difficulties of being a guitar player is deciding what gear is needed for live performances. We often get trapped in thinking that we must have the biggest and loudest guitar rig for shows, accompanied by a pedalboard equipped with 30+ pedals. Don’t get me wrong, there is something extremely satisfying about plugging in …
