Professional saxophonist, trained at the nations top music schools, I teach students of all levels and ages, whether just beginning or an experienced player. I have a great amount of experience in both classical and jazz and have been playing for about 21 years myself. I currently teach saxophone at Austin Peay State University and Tennessee State University, but truly enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities!

In addition to helping students establish solid fundamentals, I can help you reach your goals, whether that be through working on classical solo repertoire, jazz and improvisation, band music, preparing for a competition or audition, and more. I try to make lessons fun and enjoyable for the student.

If you don't live near me, online lessons are a great alternative to in person lessons. I have had success teaching many students of various abilities and ages throughout the country and abroad online! I have taught online students from 26 different states and 3 ...

How do you make awesome music in Ableton?

Start with the music that excites you. Listen, analyze and notice all the sounds you're hearing.

Then, you make a soundalike. In the process, we analyze everything you hear, and learn all the tricks of recording, sound design, producing and mixing.

Then, you try making your own music, using the sounds you know and new sounds you discover on the fly.

One project at a time, you figure out how music works, master the software, and become capable of making just about any sound you want to hear.

I've been making music with Ableton for a while- I made my first record as a songwriter almost entirely in Ableton 9. I learned everything by trial and error and a lot of YouTube watching, so I can help you avoid the initial stumbles I made and set you up for success with the most powerful software on the market for music creation.

I won't be lecturing you- we'll be working together, collaborating on music you can be proud of. Shoot me a message ...

About Ethan

My musical life started at the piano when I was four. I've spent the last five years helping students understand the sounds that speak to them and bring them into their own music-making. I spent my early years playing piano, then picked up the saxophone, which took me to Berklee College of Music,

Ethan is truly an amazing saxophone teacher! I started learning the saxophone on my own but had been plateauing for months. Thanks to Ethan, I learned very useful tips - ranging from music theory to practical advises - and I can now feel myself progressing again. What’s impressed me the most with Ethan are his passion for the music, his dedication to transmitting his love for the saxophone and his desire to find the find the best teaching approach for each of his students.
Matthew
The way I view music and life in general has shifted in the best way possible. Stoked to have been apart of Ethan's lessons and recommend anyone interested in music to do the same. The things I never even begun to understand about music are now commonplace and serve to better my understanding of music as a whole.

I plan my lessons and create my own materials to fit each student's specific needs and goals. While learning an instrument is a worthy endeavor on its own, I also work with my students to hone important life and study skills that they can also apply to other aspects of their lives and education - not to mention having fun making music! Confidence, problem solving, and setting and working towards goals are just some of the skills I work to impart on my students.

"Zhao Yang is the perfect teacher. She is attentative, patient, thorough, encouraging, and extremely informative. I am so glad that I chose to learn from her. She assessed my knowledge of Mandarin in the very first lesson.

The lessons are tailored to my interests and learning style. Not every teacher has the ability to teach in a way that caters to an individual's learning needs and abilities. Having this ability makes Zhao Yang (feichang hao!) great! Each session, she reviews what was taught in the previous lesson and homework given.
