Private Violin Teacher

Rhea has taught professionally for over a decade, and strives to teach her students that violin playing is not just about technique, but also about learning the language of music and communicating artistic ideas through the violin. A native of Maryland, Rhea served as concertmaster of school orchestras, Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras, American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras, All-State, and All-Eastern. She is the first violin sectional coach of the Philharmonic, Symphony, and Young Artists orchestras of MCYO, and is proud to come full circle by nurturing the next generation of young musicians. Her students have served as orchestral section leaders of their respective schools and/or youth orchestras, and have earned scholarships from several music programs in the area.

At the age of twenty, Rhea made her solo debut with the National Symphony Orchestra, and has performed at some of the world's finest concert halls including Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center Concert Hall. Rhea studied ...

Rhea is a great teacher! After many years of not playing, I decided to pick up lessons again. Rhea is great with adult instruction and she was very accommodating of scheduling. Aside from her music credentials (which are impressive on their own), she is kind, funny, and definitely has the student interest at heart. Highly recommend!

I was looking to learn the violin during the pandemic, and was fortunate to find Rhea. I've always wanted to learn how to play the violin so I can unwind my days with music after a demanding work schedule. She's taught me so quickly and thoroughly, and I've been able to learn my favorite pop and movie theme songs. She's been so flexible in accommodating in-person and online lessons depending on my needs.

My son has had many teachers, but none as attentive and detailed as Mrs. Rhea. For the first time, he is focused in his lessons, and he knows exactly how to practice. He even said, "I can't wait to be a violin teacher like Mrs. Rhea!" What a special thing to hear from my 8-year-old son. We're so grateful we found Mrs. Rhea.

LisaJo is an extraordinary violin teacher. She is helpful, positive and interesting during lessons. She helps students progress with perceptive comments and targeted studies. She is the only teacher I have worked with who has taken so much time giving notes and extra-curricular materials to support progress. Thanks so much, LisaJo!

I'm sorry, I cannot handle this Instructor for my children. She wasn't me but she's not quite the people person I expected. Her personality is not a good match for a high school tutor. Unfortunately her English is not good enough. Her accent is entirely too strong. Also she does not know enough Geometry to help my kids.

As a professional musician myself, I enjoy working with students of all levels. Teaching a student to play better and develop musically helps you the student to enjoy making music for yourself or with an orchestra or a smaller ensemble in whatever style you enjoy. Lessons will be tailored to your needs. I will help you with posture, music reading left hand technique and right hand bowing to produce a beautiful tone. I help students to prepare school music, youth orchestra music, auditions for orchestras and solos, scales and etudes to improve their technique and ability. I can do online or in person lessons or a combination of both.

"Chelsea is a wonderful teacher. Playing a plastic recorder for a week in fourth grade music class is the extent of my musical experience and that was a LONG time ago. Chelsea is great at finding the right place for me to start learning and then laying out for me exactly what I need to work on in order to progress to the next stage of my learning process. I had been considering teaching myself how to play the violin via youtube videos but learned more in the span of one hour-long session with Chelsea than I could have learned in a week going that route. Chelsea was able to address the importance of things like posture and breathing to achieve the best possible sound, without that real time one-on-one instruction this would have been a nuance that I would not have ever picked up on. She is punctual, friendly, polite and patient. I highly recommend hiring her to teach you or your kids an instrument."
