After receiving my Undergraduate Degree in Cello Performance and having played for over 13 years, I feel prepared to teach students of any skill level. My classically-oriented upbringing has exposed me to a wide variety of settings and repertoire (solo, chamber, orchestral) as well as years of audition and performance preparation. I have also spent the past few years exploring and refining extended techniques (chops, slaps, etc.) in and outside of a wide variety of non-classical genres, ranging from improvisation-based styles such as jazz and bluegrass to rock and pop.

Regardless of style, my lessons typically focus on reinforcing a strong technical foundation and productive practice routine including, but not limited to, scales and arpeggios, rhythmic training, ear-training and theory, and reading (+sight reading training and chord charts). For method books I use Suzuki, Essential Elements 2000, and a variety of technique/etude books depending on skill level (i.e. Popper, Schroeder,

I have always wanted to play the cello but never had any musical experience. I was hesitant doing online lessons at first but that worry quickly ran away when I had my first online lesson with Jordi. Jordi was so welcoming and it made me excited for the next lesson to come! He is extremely patient and encouraging whenever I would mess up or get a bit nervous playing which helps my anxiety. I always learn something new from him every time we meet and he creates a clear plan on what to work on for my next lesson. He is an understanding teacher and tailors to your experience level and the kind of music genre you like to play. He is also very flexible with his schedule. I'm a senior in high school so I have many things on my plate but he's willing to make time fit mine and his schedule. I'm very thankful to have him as my cello teacher. If you're researching and contemplating which teacher you should choose, picking Jordi is the smartest choice! :)

My daughter loves her cello lessons and has made amazing progress. Jordi is both professional and relaxed which is a great combination.

Jordi was a Godsend when the pandemic hit. I had a life long desire to make music as well as listen and learn how to relax. He has far surpassed any of my expectations of an instructor. He is phenomenal. He teaches, he listens to my questions; He even anticipates my questions. His smile immediately says “I understand where I can help.” I am always eager to meet with him every week.

I am an emotive cellist with two decades experience. I have toured internationally performing my original works including London, Paris, and Berlin. As a member of the Pierce Quartet I regularly arrange and perform music for weddings and other special occasions. I love sharing classical music with all levels of students. Lessons with me are calm, meditative experiences where we use peaceful techniques to enter into the heart of music.

New students will bring in anything they know to their first lesson in order for me to have a brief understanding of their level and personality. This will allow me to build a personal guideline to focus on individually.

Yu Yu is excellent. My son learned so much in the first one hour online lesson. The online communication posed a challenge, but she was able to communicate thoroughly and effectively for my son to understand and improve on his technique and posture. I am confident we chose the right instructor for him.

My 16-year-old ---who had not practiced for over a year---is absolutely loving her lessons with Ms. Avenira! With only 3 lessons, I am now seeing the spark for playing the violin return to my daughter's eyes. Ms. Avenira is meeting my daughter "where she is" and truly customizing lessons to move her forward. She provides detailed updates for each lesson, and I could not be happier with my investment. Excellent teacher.
Michelle P.
Avenira really connected with my 14 year old, while our daughter has always been enthusiastic to learn an instrument, putting in the practice and the work has been a challenge in the past. Avenira's format, which allows flexibility for how the student learns best, is really working. My daughter has been practicing every night (unprompted by us), and is really excited abut her next lesson with Avenira. She also loves that she can learn both guitar and piano with Avenira, since she is interested in both. Avenira was very motivating, complimenting our daughter for being focused and for doing a great job during the lesson. Definitely would rate Avenira A+++++++!!

I employ the use of ABRSM and TRINITY Curriculum for my beginner/Intermediate students, mostly because of the comprehensiveness I find in the curriculum.
We make use of the Suzuki Cello Methods as well to help with Aural perception and achieve some extent of independence during performances.

For our advanced Students, We use the Trinity Licentiate program which is equivalent to a University Master's degree. Master Classes are held twice every month featuring different teachers and different Techniques for better performance.

We have had lessons in person and online. I am beginner at 65 years old and I would highly recommend Charles Bossert as a violin, and other strings instruments instructor. "Chris has been an amazing cello instructor! He does a great job explaining how your body should feel when you're bowing (great for a first time string student) and hand positions. He really helps you integrate cello practice into whatever time you have for it and you can tell he really has a passion for the instrument and knows it well. On top of it all, he's just a really nice, fun person and the lessons fly by!"

"This was our first lesson with Hallie. But she was very engaging, encouraging and asked all the questions that I could possibly hope a teacher/tutor would ask to get an idea of where the student is to make an action plan.
My Son has much more confidence that he can achieve his goals with her help! ~Thank you!"

"Sophie is a very good teacher because she is patient and very attentive to detail. She focuses a lot on fundamentals and she doesn’t let you off the hook until you have everything done as best as you can. She also focuses a lot on technique and intonation. Additionally, she is easy to talk to and explains new concepts really well. She will work with you and personalize your lesson instead of expecting everyone to learn the same way."

"As a 40 year old beginner I was a little nervous about the whole online experience as well as starting a new instrument. Victor makes the online teaching experience seamless. Victor is calm, thoughtful and patient. He always finds a way to explain something in a way that relates to me specifically. To do this someone must be able to listen as well as teach. This is quality I have not found in all of my teachers/instructors/coaches throught the years. Victor is also easily the most flexible of any teacher I have had. He always finds a way to accommodate my schedule and works around any issues that arise. I have really enjoyed my learning experience thus far and look forward to each lesson. I would not hesitate to recommend Victor to anyone looking to learn the cello."

Cello Thumb Position: Where to Place Your Fingers & Hands

Cello thumb position is one of the big leaps of technique for advancing cellists and is one of the skills that sets more advanced students from the intermediate. This new technique opens up the higher ranges of the instrument and allows us to play more advanced solos and etudes. This technique is not something you should rush into though! Make sure to take things slowly at first and master the basic concepts before moving on.  When Should You Focus on Your Cello Thumb Position? There have to …

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …

What Does it Take to Become a Professional Cello Player?

Pursuing a career in music is a risky decision, because by the nature of the industry few artists can “make it big.” Most artists aren’t pop stars, or even full-time career musicians, and all musicians also teach to remedy this. There are many paths to becoming a professional cello player, and depending on where you start it might be easy or hard to earn a reputation and start making money. I followed an academic path, studying classical music at university and then continuing my research …
