Classical guitar is my first love and what brought me into the world of music. I began teaching in 2006 and have continually sought to improve my teaching over the years. When learning classical guitar (or any instrument) there are many approaches. Ideally, I believe that it is best for students to learn all of the keys to playing (physical technique, musical understand, a sense a rhythm and collaborative abilities and much more) before they jump into learning lots of pieces.

...But let's be honest, most of us don't have the patience for that. I know I don't. I want to make sure that you get all of the key elements to play the way that you want, but I know that you want to learn guitar because of the music! So even if you've never played an instrument before, it's my goal to have you playing music in the first lesson. From that point, we'll learn more pieces, and we'll continually add new musical elements so that you get an understand of not just how to put your fingers on the ...

I graduated Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music and have been teaching all levels, ages, and styles for many years. My students have ranged in age from six years old to eighties. With children, I develop a special rapport that keeps students interested in their lessons. With intermediate and advanced students, I evaluate each student's strengths and weaknesses and customize their lessons to help them gain a thorough knowledge of their instrument and the musical concepts involved in whatever style they desire to play. I believe in teaching not only the hows but also the whys of playing. Proper technique is vital to long term success. I start beginners correctly and coach intermediate and advanced students to correct technical flaws that keep them from attaining their goals. I have taught beginners through professionals, including Bachelors and Masters Degree students in Guitar, Bass, Improvisation, and Theory at university. Many of my students have studied with me for years. Music ...

About Peter

Music has been the focus of my life since I was 10 years old. I love teaching students of all levels, ages, and styles! I feel that proper technique is essential for students to attain their goals. I start beginners correctly, so they don’t run into issues later, and have a great rapport with kids

Peter is a master musician. We used him for years while he was in Savannah. Our daughter started with him when she was six. He is patient and engaging. Probably our favorite part about the Peter Hennes experience is his ability to connect with young minds at their level - I can appreciate this much more since our covid in-house learning experience. From a parent's perspective, Mr. Hennes is pleasant, flexible and a pleasure to work with - we asked for our daughter to focus on different things multiple times and he made it easy. He also turned into a family friend of ours during his time living in Savannah; we wish him the best!

I've been a self taught guitarist for over 20 years until I started taking lessons with Peter. I was interested in improving my technical & improvisation skills as well as learning music theory & harmony in relation to Jazz.

Peter has been a great teacher and is very knowledgeable about Jazz Theory/Composition and even simpler topics like fingerings or questions about gear.

I've only been taking lessons for a couple of months and already notice big improvements in my playing ability & understanding of music theory & harmony.

I highly recommend Peter as a teacher for a student of any skill level.

Peter has been teaching my 14yo for a couple years now and transitioned him from electric to jazz guitar, preparing him for auditions for the band in high school. My son as a freshman made the advanced band which I credit to Peter’s help in getting him up to speed through a pandemic! Great teacher!

When I was a child my father would play the piano while my mother would cook us dinner. Both of my parents shared with us five children this love for music. My inspiration came from seeing Van Halen in concert in 1982 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco , and that was it. I became a teacher to share that inspiration with others. I've been studying guitar for forty years now and have a knowledge of many styles. I've been inspired by many genres of music, from the 1960's to the present ,not to mention my interest in classical, The Beatles and Chuck Berry.

About Margaret

I love teaching music and want to help you achieve your goals whatever they may be . My teaching style could be described as learning with enthusiasm and curiosity. We will study academic and free form style.

I met Margaret S. as a 50-something man picking up guitar for the first time. Margaret showed great patience walking me through the basics needed by a complete beginner. Six years later I’m still playing and learning, and I owe it all to the inspiration Margaret Instilled in me.
One thing that sets Margaret apart from other teachers I’ve met is her ability to inspire children. She connects with kids easily and she makes them want to learn and practice. I highly recommend her.

"I have been working with Brendon for about 2 years now. He is not only incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of guitar (composition, scales, classical pieces, finger-strengthening exercises, etc.), he is also an incredibly patient and dedicated instructor who really listens to the student's needs and helps fill them. His repertoire of songs, exercises, and general guitar knowledge have helped me understand the instrument in a multitude of different ways. I have had many guitar instructors before, but never someone who was so incredibly flexible and patient and willing to help when it comes to someone who has a busy schedule who is still interested in learning a complex instrument. He's definitely the best instructor I've ever had, and I look forward to continuing to work with him for a long time."

I have had several years of lessons before with two other teachers. David will definitely help me improve quickly by building on my current skills. Great start!"

"Ahmad is no doubt one of the most humble, approachable, and skillful guitar teacher you can find around the bay area. I have been studying with Ahmad for the past 3 and a half months. Ahmad was not the first music instructor I had. He is however, the best one so far by a large margin. Since the first lesson Ahmad has been extremely professional and organized in his teaching methods. He is able to quickly identify my strengths and weaknesses as a player, tailor his lessons to fit my capabilities, and help me improve in great effectiveness.

I took lessons once a week with Ahmad, and every week I could see noticeable improvements because Ahmad assigned me homework that was fun and challenging but never frustrating. But beyond this, not only have I become a more skilled guitar player, through Ahmad's help I was also able to apply a lot of the theoretical music knowledge in other aspects. When I hear a piece of music, I find that I am slowly able to identify parts of the music, break it down into logical steps, and connect the music to the fretboard of the guitar.

I am a college student with a busy schedule both on and off work, but with Ahmad I was able to greatly improve nonetheless. Thank you Ahmad, I really look forward to coming back to the Bay Area and be your student again."

"Andrei has been our weekly music teacher for more than three years. He teaches my son (now 9 years old) to read music and play the drums and the piano, and he teaches me to play the guitar.

Andrei has been nothing but reliable and generous with his time. He is proficient in music history and theory, in a wide range of musical styles, on multiple instruments. His patience, diverse knowledge and skills along with what appears to be an intuitive approach toward each of his varied students, has been very effective for us. Also, he knows A LOT of music, has a great ear and doesn't seem to mind working with us to play whatever tunes we come up with each week.

If you or your child wants to learn to play an instrument, this is the guy!"
