My approach in teaching is firmly grounded in developing a healthy and self-driven practice culture in my students. As a practicing teacher, I strive tirelessly to lead by example. I ensure my students feel empowered after each lesson and hold them accountable to commit to their own daily grinds. For working with a new student, my typical process is to begin with the end in mind. According to the particular needs and expectations of the student, we discuss attainable and measurable goals for a given period of time. Especially during times of difficulty, I encourage my students to follow their curiosity and guard their motivation as we share the journey of music making together.

About Tommy

As a strong believer in the life-changing power of music, my teaching is driven by my purpose to serve and empower students of all backgrounds to realize their full potential and to leave a positive impact on the lives of others. Currently a doctoral candidate in brass performance at Boston Universi

During the last 6 months, Tommy has been a wonderfully patient, kind, and knowledgeable teacher to my 12 year-old son. He focused on my son's particular needs and provided lessons he put together to focus on areas to improve his skills. Moreover, Tommy is a talented musician, with the skill and experience to teach any level of trombone. I am very glad I chose Tommy to mentor my son in trombone.

During my time with Tommy, he has helped me improve in many areas. I feel that I learn and improve every lesson. Tommy is committed to teaching and points things out where I can improve upon. While teaching, Tommy uses many analogies that help me better understand what I'm doing wrong and how I can fix it.

Levels taught: beginner, intermediate, advanced.

Russian is my native language, and I can help you with anything from learning the alphabet, to grammar, pronunciation and more advanced skills. In order to make the learning process as informative and interesting as possible, primarily for students, a modern teacher must use additional materials at the lesson. Of course, my materials contain a sufficient amount of learning aids that contribute to a more productive and meaningful assimilation of the new theoretical material. From my experience I can promise you - in a few lessons you will be able to maintain the simplest dialogue and read short stories.

About Irina

I began my musical education at the age of ten, have played for 24 years, and have fourteen years of formal musical education. I specialize in classical music, and can play any musical style required. I am a Legal Permanent Resident of the United States. I was born in Uzbekistan in a Russian famil

I am coming to the cello as a brand new beginner. I have play around with some fretted instruments, ukulele, banjo, etc. But Irina was super at getting me relaxed, focused on basics and encouraging me with small, but important mechanics and technical details. I have taken other music lessons like sax, so could compare. I totally enjoyed the start of my cello training.
Oh, btw, I'm retired and over 65!!!

I highly recommend Mel for fiddle. He had a lot of really good tips and was very willing to find songs that fit the kind of music I wanted to play. Highly recommend!
Ilona
I absolutely love Mel’s lessons and look forward to them every week! I haven’t played seriously in years and have developed some bad bowing habits and difficulty with pitch over time and was close to not playing anymore. After reading the other reviews, I decided to give him a try and am so thankful I did!! My bowing and intonation is improving, he incorporates some music theory appropriate to what we are learning to master the song. I can’t wait to see where I am in 6 months from now! Thank you Mel, my passion for music is returning and am looking forward to my audition in the community orchestra next season!
Hannah
I just started working with Mel and he is awesome! He really listened to my goals and the type of music I am interested in playing and he is planning our lessons based on that. He is very good at explaining things and giving examples. I look forward to our lessons. Highly recommend!

Barry Harris, the great Jazz pianist, and educator says, “I have such a ball in my classes, and I learn so much from my students. They probably don’t realize that I come to school here, too. I’m just the oldest member of the class. I wish everyone could experience the blessing of learning new things all the time.”

The above statement describes how I feel when I am teaching. I have been playing and performing for over 20 years in many capacities, and still, music continues to teach me new things every time. Not only do I want to share that experience with you, but I also want to guide you into having that experience for yourself.

About Ian

I started on the violin when I was about 8 years old. I began with classical music, studying in the Suzuki method. I loved my time in the Suzuki method; I wasn’t always the best student; however, in hindsight, I am incredibly grateful for the experience with my teacher, the method, and the strong

First of all, my classes are fun and interesting. I adapt the content, strategy, mood, activities and level according to the student´s needs and age level.
They are student centered, meaning the student participates almost just about as much as the teacher, in other words, they are very dynamic. I utilized a hands-on communicative approach intertwined with mixed strategies for the purposes of inclusivity, as every person is unique, whatever is your strength in learning, I will cover it. I work on the pronunciation to try to get the learner to pronounce as close to a native speaker as possible. My classes are in a spirel shape which go forward and backwards to reinforce the previous learning, and steady evaluation.
I tell the student about the Hispanic culture and history and the similarities among the English language or other languages that I have knowledge.
My classes are curriculum based, they follow a pattern of real-life functionality combined with grammar to produce effective ...

About Paul

I focus in getting the student happy, meaning, quality of classes provided and a good relationship. That said, I do an assessment of the student´s needs and objective for taking the Spanish language classes. Following that, I develop a custumized curriculum according to those needs.
